This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that's closing in 14 days.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Operations Development Manager - Junior (think part Project Manager part Business Analyst) to join our growing Operational Development team based predominantly at our Head offices in Leeds with some homeworking and travel to other Hermes sites.

At Hermes we’re upfront; this role would suit someone who can take a lead on business and operational change projects in a fast paced and demanding environment. This is a broad role which will require the successful candidate to work with stakeholders across all business areas, driving both physical process and business process change.

Projects often have an IT dependency, and you would play a vital role in ensuring that IT solutions are designed & implemented to meet business needs.  However, the management of IT development is not part of this role and so if you’ only dealt with purely IT projects this may not be the role for you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Play a vital role in the planning, design and implementation of new operational products, systems and processes, you’ll take the lead on physical and /or business process change projects as well as projects to launch new products into the network.
  • Play a supporting role on large multi-dimensional business transformation programmes, taking ownership of specific workstreams and reporting back to the relevant Ops Development Manager.
  • Supporting Ops Development Managers by taking ownership of specific workstreams on multi-dimensional business transformations.
  • Ensuring that necessary resource is available at each stage of the project, filling any gaps with your own experience and abilities.  A willingness to take on actions, as well as track those given to other stakeholders, is of vital importance.
  • Working closely with Systems Dev Engineers, IT Project Managers, Business Analysts, Product Owners and MI Developers/Analysts to ensure that the business context and objectives are clearly understood, and that IT solutions meet the business need.
  • Leading Operational stakeholders across hubs, depots, field and ParcelShops to design and implement effective roll out plans for all developments, including training, communications, deployment and monitoring plans.
  • Evidencing that developments have had the required performance and cost benefits to meet the project objectives.
  • Submitting weekly project updates and roadmaps to the Senior Ops Development Manager for inclusion in weekly reporting to the COO.
  • Presenting project “deep dives”, on request, at monthly Project Boards and/or Hermes Board.

Essential skills and experience required:

Logistics experience is beneficial but not essential for this role.  If you can answer yes to the following questions and can demonstrate that you have applied these skills in a previous role, you might be the person we’re looking for.

  • Can you effectively communicate at all levels, including the directorate where you thrive under pressure and can make the complex, simple.
  • Can you organise, enthuse and motivate a project team, holding team members to account for their actions?
  • Are you a natural planner able to identify the necessary milestones, activities and decisions required to reach a goal?
  • Can you break down complexity to articulate problems, ideas, and solutions to different types of stakeholders?
  • Are you comfortable with challenging your peers (both up and down the hierarchy) to ensure decision making is informed and aligned to project goals?
  • Are you willing to lend your hand to any role on a project to fill the skills and/or resource gaps in your project team?
  • Do you hold a full UK driving licence and have the ability to travel?

What we can offer you:

We can offer you a competitive salary, bonus, 26 days annual leave plus bank holidays, 3% contribution into your pension, life assurance and income protection. On top of this, we offer a great range of flexible benefits that aim to provide something for everyone, so whether you want shopping vouchers, insurance or healthcare we’ve got you covered.

This role offers fantastic opportunities for you to climb the career ladder into managerial roles within both the function and wider business. At Hermes, we don’t just accept difference — we celebrate it, we support it, we thrive on it and are proud to be an equal opportunities employer.
