Wirral-headquartered renewable bioenergy and Combined Heat and Power specialists, Fleetsolve are expanding its workforce with the creation of an additional 70 jobs to meet the growing demand for its products and services.

Fleetsolve, a SIMEC Brand, is an award-winning business specialising in the design, manufacture and operation of liquid and gas-powered combined heat and power (CHP) units and power generation systems. The Role of Electrical Design Engineer

  • The creation of design and integration drawings for the build and implementation of a range of liquid and gaseous powered combined heat and power and power generation systems. Applying electrical and electromechanical principles to develop efficient and reliable installations. 
  • Design of electrical layouts and infrastructure, control panels, PLC interface, protection and control strategies for a range of CHP and power generation systems operating at 415 to 11kv to meet requirements of assigned projects.
  • Providing initial project scope and support during the sales process to implementing service capability and operation and installation process, this is a true end to end role developing preliminary designs of electrical and electromechanical systems supporting the bid and procurement departments to cost the project to final build and assembly drawings once bids are won.
  • Using several CAD packages including AutoCAD, Eplan Amtech and Bim software to ensure the correct evaluation interpretation, safety and compliance of a customer’s requirements, whilst understanding the commercial aspects of containerised power generation and CHP equipment.
  • Electrical design of complex fuel storage and transfer control systems for oil and liquid fuel systems including trace heating, UPS battery support and fire system interface. 
  • Design of package plant room cable containment, lighting power, motor starting systems, actuating valves and power distribution boards associated with power generation and heat recovery equipment, ensuring the design meets and exceeds current legislative requirements.
  • Work closely with the project delivery team attending site to ensure correct understanding of installation process and constant improvement.
  • Attend site installations Fleetsolve have not designed or installed and be the competent person interrogating the design and proposing system design improvements.
  • Involvement with apprentice training and coaching of young engineers and interdepartmental colleagues.
  • Work closely with the procurement team and buyers to encourage knowledge transfer and understanding.
  • Assist the project department to write commissioning processes and ongoing maintenance schemes.

 

Skills and qualifications

  • Ability to communicate at all levels with non-technical and technical colleagues, customers, and suppliers. 
  • A BEng in an electrical or electromechanical design discipline is desirable but not essential if you have a technical certificate and a minimum of five years proven experience in the design of CHP and power generation systems.
  • Experience of designing building infrastructure systems including power distribution earthing. DNO protection requirements of embedded power generation systems such as G99, BMS and BEMS control systems.
  • Experience of designing Package plant rooms outlining full technical details by way of drawings and fully detailed calculations with written schemes of work who will hold the responsible qualified person status within the company for the compliance and accurate electrical design. The design will include power distribution cable containment, cable sizing and control interfaces with other systems 
  • Experience of hazardous zoning standards and ATEX risk assessment process that impact on designs would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience of designing synchronous generation systems that run both as island mode power plant and multi parallel to grid systems at both LV and HV.
  • Previous consultancy experience would be beneficial.
  • A wide understanding of CDM regulations and the impact of your design against this legislation. 
  • Understanding and experience of project budgeting and value engineering process ensuring a competitive and robust final build.
  • An understanding of how power generation and CHP equipment is maintained and operated including component removal and refurbishment.
  • Ideally you will hold relevant City and Guilds design erection and verification qualification (2396) for electrical systems.
  • Have a full understanding of the 18th edition wiring regulations (BS 7671).
