Based in Doncaster, the Colleague Communications Manager role is a key role in the Retail Commercial team. Responsible for supporting the Retail Marketing Director in developing and delivering the marketing strategy, the Marketing Communications Manager owns and delivers all internal communications activity. Ensuring key CBMF messages, objectives and ambitions are woven into any internal messaging – providing a consistent message for colleagues through the full financial year.

The role requires a creative candidate, with an understanding of the new and used vehicle marketplace and a passion for good communications. In this role, you will work closely with the wider Marketing team, the Motor Management Committee, plus external suppliers to deliver an enhanced brand and colleague experience. In turn supporting our five-key metrics, whilst thinking colleague first and becoming a key advocate of supporting Motor’s #oneteam ethos


  • Support the Retail Marketing Director in developing and delivering the CBMF marketing strategy – specifically focussing on internal communications.
  • Ensure colleagues understand CBMF’s purpose, and strategy, along with the ‘why, what and how’ around how our strategy will be delivered, including the role they play.
  • Develop and deliver CBMFs internal communications plan. This plan should cover, but not be limited to:
  • Owning the internal communications framework
  • Devising an annual calendar of internal communications, with varied topics, channels and media, and all be insight driven and measurable
  • Work with key stakeholders to develop the creation of messages – including, but not limited to, writing the content, or creating key bullets for others to turn into key content
  • Support project teams, as a key member of the delivery team, on all internal communications requirements, including the creation of all internal messaging to support the project, with SME input
  • Prepare content for any internal events included in the framework and agreed objectives reporting after the event on successes
  • Support CBMF’s internal communications platform, Jive, engagement
  • Monthly reporting on the effectiveness and engagement of all internal communications included in the calendar
  • Work with other Internal Communications functions across Close Brothers to have a broad aligned plan and understanding of audience overlap – specifically matrix and central functions within CBMF
  • Hold annual audits, to understand CBMF’s changing colleague landscape, comms needs, colleague engagement and what communication methods are working
  • Partner with key stakeholders to advise on CBMF’s comms strategy. Guide on what they need to consider, and be mindful of when both providing and cascading key content and updates
  • Effectively manage the Marketing budget for internal comms, reporting monthly on activity and spend including variances to plan
  • Consult with all managers across CBMF to launch new initiatives and gain engagement, including a range of tactical B2B/B2C/B2B2C marketing campaigns, and product launches
  • Work with, and effectively manage following due process, key agencies
  • Live and breathe the Close Brothers values and develop effective relationships across the business, with a particular focus on sales and operations.



  • A passionate, results driven marketer who has a creative flair
  • Tenacious and willing, can be ‘hands-on’ as required to get the job done
  • Demonstrable marketing experience within financial services
  • Experience of working with/managing substantial marketing budgets
  • Experience of delivering engaging internal communications and employee events across a variety of channels
  • Experience of managing an internal communications platform (a social intranet)
  • Advanced knowledge of PowerPoint
  • Taking an analytical approach to activity reviews using data and insight to make recommendations for future activity/action
  • Matrix management experience (e.g. with project teams, external suppliers and marketing agencies) with the ability to manage up and across the line
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentational skills at all levels, including board members
  • Able to work under pressure and commit to deadlines.  Attention to detail is key
  • Proactive and flexible, taking ownership of tasks and always seeking to add value wherever possible


  • Experience of using and/or developing research

  • Excellent influencing skills
