We are looking for a Corporate finance lawyer to work within what we believe is a boutique, South West corporate team, with a city quality approach, sat within a UK top 80 national firm. The successful applicant will be working as part of the 3 partner South West team but will also be working alongside colleagues situated at our offices along the M4 corridor from Bristol to London.

Our corporate team continues to punch above its weight in the South West market and continues to deliver year on year growth. The rise from 19th to 6th in 2020’s Experian rankings for deal volume was the largest improvement by any firm in the top 10.

This team is different to its rivals, acting on regional M&A deals across the South West from a Bath rather than Bristol base. Whilst the team and the firm has always been committed to its Bath roots, it has grown into a heavyweight corporate team in the region, successfully growing its market share against more established Bristol-based competitors.

The team advised on over 40 regional M&A transactions during the last year, with an aggregate deal value exceeding £200m. This reflects an increase of 33% on performance in 2019/20. 60% of these transactions were in our core sectors of Technology & Innovation, Financial Services and Health & Social Care and has seen it's fee income  grow by more than 10% a year consistently since 2018.

  • Manage a caseload of files, dealing effectively with cases and transactions
  • Build credibility with clients and develops own client relationships through managing client expectations regarding options, outcomes, risk and timescales.
  • Scope fees for existing clients

  • Support juniors in the team by giving technical, business and general advice
  • Support with budgetary management of client matters
  • Begin to develop a network of own clients, contacts and potential referrers.
  • Spot opportunities to cross sell and build an internal network within the firm for cross referred work.
  • Continue to develop and learn in chosen areas of expertise, maintaining an up-to-date understanding of relevant law, policy and practice.

Skills, Experience and Attributes

  • Qualified Solicitor or CILEx of 5+ PQE
  • Experience of M&A and Corporate restructuring matters essential
  • Ideally already operating at a minimum of Associate level
  • Demonstrable ability to supervise more junior team members
