Youth Support Worker

The role

We are looking for someone on a part-time basis to provide a comprehensive support service to young people, aged between 16-18, who have left the care system. Your role will be to support them to transition into general needs accommodation by developing their independent living skills in our step-down services.

You will be responsible for;

  • Completing 1-2-1 support with our young people, covering everyday essential skills such as budgeting, attending health or other professional appointments (e.g GP & Universal Credit), as well as supporting them to find suitable work or re-enrol in education and signpost to appropriate other agencies.
  • You will be responsible for carrying out 1 support session per week, as well as a property inspection, updating attendance lists and recording interactions with our residents, into an online system.
  • You'll be based at one of three semi-independent accommodation projects in Birkenhead and will work on a rota-based shift working pattern to ensure that a high quality of support is delivered to the residents 24 hours a day 365 days a year.
  • Please note full availability will be required for this role. It is for 35 hours per week, (unless working part-time) spread across a 3 week rolling rota, with 1 in every 3 weekends off. Shift patterns include an early(08:00-16:00) and a late(13:00-22:00). This is inclusive of weekends, bank holidays and religious events.
  • An enhanced DBS is required for this role.

  • You'll be able to demonstrate relevant experience supporting others and you'll be passionate about making a difference to young people.
  • You’ll be a confident, capable communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and looking to motivate our young people.
  • If you’ve got a Level 3 qualification in Health and Social Care or Care Certificate you’ll have a head start but if not, don’t worry, we just need you to be willing to learn and to have the ICT skills and literacy skills to support some on the job learning.
