About the Company

Essar Oil UK is a leading UK-focussed downstream energy company whose main asset is the Stanlow Manufacturing Complex, one of the most advanced refineries in Europe and situated close to the major cities of Liverpool and Manchester.  Stanlow is a key strategic national asset, annually producing over 16% of the UK’s road transport fuels, while playing an important part in Britain’s petrochemical industry by providing key feedstocks.

The business is a major supplier in the North West and beyond with customers including most of the major retail brands operated by international oil companies and supermarkets, Manchester Airport, leading commercial airlines and the region’s trains and buses.

The business covers crude and product trading, refinery operations, HSE implementation, maintenance support and technological services, together with marketing and retail activities.  Our commitment to maintaining safe and healthy working conditions and following the best operating practices to protect the environment underpins everything we do.

We employ 800 highly trained and loyal staff, who are at the heart of everything we do.  The company has an embedded safety culture, technically challenging work across the different parts of the business and some of the best training available in the energy industry.

Essar is committed to playing a key role in the decarbonisation of the UK.

The Role

Following a reorganisation, we have an exciting opportunity to join our Maintenance Team as a Tankage Specialist.

There are over 200 bulk storage tanks at Stanlow and Tranmere storing crude oil, finished products and intermediates, as well as tanks associated with production units, utilities and effluent systems. The Tankage Maintenance Team are currently into the first year of a five year plan to re-life, refurbish and repair over 100 tanks, with a significant pre-approved budget to complete the works.

The role holder will be accountable for preparing an annual executable tankage programme to deliver the five year tankage plan.  This will include preparing business premises for each tank, such that the technical scope can be developed and agreed. A key part of the programme will be to reduce the integrity risk of the tanks in service and ensuring that an optimal programme is arrived at. This will require liaising with other departments such as operations, inspection and business planning.

In order to ensure that the plans can be delivered in a timely, safe and cost effective manner by the execution team and Business Partners, it is critical that all pre-outage activities are identified and progress tracked. The role holder will also be required to identify the correct resources needed to deliver the programme and to develop work methodologies ahead of tank outages to facilitate management of change and permit preparation.

The need to prepare funding approval documentation and initiate, update and issue regular progress reports will also be a requirement of this role.

About You

Our ideal candidate should have a HNC or equivalent experience and a strong engineering background, with significant experience of developing plans and technical and work methodologies of tankage. Ideally, the successful individual will have a Health and Safety accreditation and have experience working on a Top Tier COMAH Site.

The successful candidate should have experience working in a team environment, with personnel from many departments and Business Partners. You will be responsible for developing a workable programme, which others in the team will then be able to deliver.  Close liaison and communication skills are therefore essential.

Significant knowledge of Tankage execution work and the ability to demonstrate problem solving skills to solve a variety of tank issues – technical, commercial and integrity is also required.

Please note, we work with a carefully selected set of recruitment agencies and we are not looking to add to the current preferred suppliers list. We are unable to accept representations from agencies that are not on that preferred supplier list
