We are looking for a Director of Finance and Systems to take responsibility for driving the development and implementation of the Finance and Systems Strategy and the related objectives in the Trust’s Strategic Business Plan.

You’ll take ownership for Essex Wildlife Trust’s financial performance and ensure on-going financial viability – taking remedial action when necessary. Evaluating and scrutinising the overall operational performance of the Trust, you’ll report progress against strategic objectives to the CEO and the Board of Trustees and make recommendations where appropriate to enhance operational performance. You’ll oversee the governance of the Trust, including risk mitigation, health & safety and business continuity, with oversight of our systems implementation plan.

About you

We’re looking for a professionally qualified accountant, with substantial senior financial management experience, who has experience of successfully implementing a financial and performance function in a complex organisation. Ideally you will have a good understanding of compliance and governance within charitable organisations and the challenges of working within the conservation sector. Experience of charity accounting and financial regulation would also be an advantage.

With demonstrable experience within or working with an IT, data and systems transformation function, you will have experience of leading business transformations, planning and executing programmes to harmonise processes and converge IT systems, which are outward facing as well as internal.

We want our people to be as diverse as nature, so we particularly encourage applications from people who are underrepresented within our sector, including people from minority backgrounds and people with disabilities. We are committed to creating a movement that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities.

As a Disability Confident employer, we are committed to offering an interview to anyone with a disability that meets all the essential criteria for the post. Please let us know if you require any adjustments to make our recruitment process more accessible.

Essex Wildlife Trust is the county’s leading conservation charity, committed to protecting wildlife and inspiring a lifelong love of nature. We protect wildlife through landscape conservation, engagement on our nature reserves and discovery centres and via campaigns that help to give wildlife a greater voice in our county. We are a local wildlife charity supported by over 1900 volunteers and over 39,000 members. Together we protect and care for wildlife and wild places across Essex.
