This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

You will be responsible for the day to day HR operations of one of our Hubs including the full end to end people cycle. You will support the implementation of the operational elements of the HR Strategy and provide onsite coaching and guidance in relation to all HR matters to the Hub General Manager and their team. The post holder will be key in defining the Hub Employee Experience which ensures managers and employees are equipped with best practise to foster a high-performance culture.  


Your accountabilities:


  • Through the Talent Acquisition Team, you will be responsible for the delivery of the Hub Resourcing Plan, ensuring the appropriate level of resource is in place in line with business volumes and facilitating assessment sessions (interviews / selection days / open days etc) with the operational teams
  • Working closely with senior managers and their teams, plan and implement inductions for groups of new starters and support the continuous development of the Hub induction programme with central L&D and HR Business Partner
  • Create and  deliver the HR element of inductions where appropriate either directly or through your team
  • Providing pro-active advice, challenge and guidance on all HR issues to the General Manager, senior leadership team and HR Advisor to resolve all issues at the earliest opportunity with integrity and professionalism
  • Managing complex cases with the support of the HRBP
  • In collaboration with the site management, help identify development needs and work with L&D Partner to develop the appropriate learning solutions
  • Overseeing the effective application of Hermes policies to resolve all sickness absence, disciplinary, grievance and capability issues that arise within operations and escalating high risk or complex cases to the ER team.
  • Proactively working with management to ensure absence and attrition is in line with KPIs and putting relevant and appropriate action plans in place
  • Preparing a weekly and monthly HR update for the HRBP and the senior operational team,
  • Ensuring compliance with mandatory training (annual/bi-annual refresher training) for all colleagues
  • Driving a continuous feedback culture by creating opportunities for the Employee Voice to influence the overall people plan and activity e.g. through employee forums, union relationship, feedback surveys etc.
  • Developing and overseeing the Hub Engagement Plan with site management and hold relevant managers and teams accountable for their actions
  • The implementation of HR plans for site specific projects, supporting the HRBP with the implementation of all business change e.g. Tupe, Insourcing, Redundancy
  • Ensuring that Talent & Succession Plans are up to date across your business area and coach your leaders to ensure they can mentor talent within their teams
  • Building an effective relationship with the Union Representatives onsite and take accountability for driving key actions from union sessions
  • Line Manager responsibilities for HR Assistant and HR Administrator


  • CIPD qualification, or working towards would be advantageous
  • Coaching, training or L&D related qualifications or accreditation is advantageous

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Experience of working within a generalist HR role in a warehouse or transport industry is highly beneficial
  • Strong Microsoft packages experience
  • A strong understanding of Employment Law and tribunal principles
  • Experience of building and maintaining a Union relationship
  • Experience of managing and motivating direct reports and those that are not in direct reporting line
  • Experience of facilitating and/or delivering training to large groups

Technical & People Skills:

  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Familiarity with HR systems, and report writing
  • Working to tight deadlines and changing priorities
  • Reviewing and developing processes and procedures 

Impact & Influence:

  • Experience of working with external system providers to gain the best experience for our users
  • Experience of influencing at a senior level
  • Experience of handling individual employee queries
  • Experience of weekend working on a rota basis
  • Confidence to challenge poor practise and ability to influence this in a constructive coaching manner
  • Highly organised with ability to forward plan 3/6/12 months in advance
