Department Overview:

RLB offers a range of Building Consultancy services one of which is Fire Consultancy. Our fire consultants proactively manage and undertake surveys, formulate designs and specification, provide fire strategies plus other bespoke services to ensure our client’s estates remain well maintained and achieve their potential in terms of fire safety management.

We provide inception to completion services throughout the life cycle of built assets including; fire strategies, retrospective fire strategies, clerk of works, design review, fire integrity surveys, remedial works specification and project and programme management. We pride ourselves on the quality of the service we provide to our clients and aim to enjoy long term working relationships.

Within our Fire Safety team, we have an experienced group of people involved in the delivery of a wide range of fire safety services. In addition to services we deliver directly to our clients, the team provides support to the wider business both regionally and nationally on all fire related advice.

 

Overview of Role:

We are currently recruiting for a Clerk of Works with Fire Safety bias, to join a client focused team within our Birmingham office.  Serving clients predominately with the Midlands Region working from a combination of site/home/office locations.

This is an exciting opportunity for a high calibre individual to join and strengthen our team. The role will be an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual to take responsibility for providing particular focus on clerk of work / fire safety services within our existing team.

Learning and development will be provided in the form of IFE accredited level 3 ASFP passive fire protection course and FDIS fire door diploma (FDDip) where required.  This will be alongside support provided by mentoring, personal development and CPD support delivered by the wider fire consultancy team.   

 

Key responsibilities:

  •  Verifying compliance with contractual drawings
  •  Measuring and quality checking building materials
  •  Finding solutions to issues in partnership with the team
  •  Monitoring progress and reporting to construction managers, architects and clients
  •  Liaising with contractors, engineers and surveyors
  •  Preparing written reports
  •  Keeping detailed records of work
  •  Performing regular inspections of the work, materials and products on site and comparing completed work with drawings and contract specification
  •  Checking that building regulations, health and safety, legal and ecological requirements are met
  •  Ensuring that the works are carried out in line with the quality defined by the Works Information
  •  Maintain and growing client relationship
  •  Safeguarding the quality of work

 

Person Specification:

 

The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise to deliver commissions and projects.

  •  Previous experience as a Clerk of Works on residential and commercial projects
  •  Good NEC Knowledge
  •  Sector relevant qualifications (NEC Supervisor qualifications desirable)
  •  Experience in developing and implementing processes for effective defects management
  •  Demonstrating excellent up to date technical knowledge
  •  Ideally consultancy background
  •  Capable of working under their own initiative and as part of a group
  •  Keeping up to date with current building regulations and compliance
  •  Fire Safety Regulation awareness / knowledge
