Fieldfisher's Business Development & Marketing Communications department is responsible for all aspects of business development and communications for the firm and consists of 23 members.

The department works closely with fee earners and focuses on revenue generation and reputation enhancement, by producing and promoting thought-leading content as well as day-to-day corporate communications, press releases and announcements.

What can you expect?

Our new communications manager will join a busy, friendly team from a diverse range of backgrounds who jointly look after the firm's sector, practice and corporate communications. This is an excellent role for a confident and creative self-starter, who is comfortable interviewing experts in their field and translating this information into engaging, easily digestible content – both written and visual (with the help of our video, design, digital and social media teams).

The manager will work with Fieldfisher partners to identify opportunities and priorities and then develop and deliver communications programmes focused on achieving strategic objectives. 

This role will cover both internal and external communications.

For internal communications, you will use the firm's intranet, internal email system and town hall meetings to publicise the achievements of your fee-earning teams and, where required, assist with firm-wide messaging projects.

For external communications, you will be responsible for creating and distributing your own content, maximising PR exposure for your fee-earning teams and the firm. You will help strengthen the firm's relationships with journalists at quality national and reputable trade titles to ensure our experts have a voice on key issues that matter to our clients and prospects.

In addition, the manager will oversee their team's pages on the Fieldfisher website, lead on their team's client and prospect communications and provide content for the firm's social media channels to assist with digital marketing efforts. You will have the opportunity to work with and meet international marketing colleagues from across the 11 countries where Fieldfisher has offices, and we encourage a collegiate, internationally-minded approach to our communications roles.

You will also take on a range of other responsibilities when needed, including:

  • Working with the wider communications and business development team on joint projects
  • Covering for colleagues where required
  • Managing legal directory submissions (we have a tried and tested system in place for this so please do not worry if you have not worked on legal directories before)
  • Award entries
  • Submitting data and information for league tables and rankings.

The role will be based in London with the expectation that you will work three days per week from our offices near Monument Tube Station.

A bit about you

  • Proven track record in driving the news agenda, either as an in-house or agency communications professional or as the editor of a website or publication (essential)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills (essential)
  • A track record of creating and executing PR or editorial campaigns in a highly regulated or complex industry (essential)
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines and with the flexibility to work additional hours when needed (essential)
  • A team player with high energy levels (essential)
  • Experience and understanding of the financial services sector (desirable)
  • Established relationships with journalists, ideally within the financial services sector or similar (desirable)
  • Experience of working in or closely with professional services firms in a B2B context (desirable)
  • Excellent networking skills (desirable)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in Language/Literature, Journalism, Business, Marketing, Law or related fields
  • At least five years hands-on experience in dealing with B2B/corporate communications, either as an in-house or agency communications professional, or as the editor of a website/publication
  • Keen interest in working in the legal sector
