The Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) is a leading professional body representing more than 21,500 school and college leaders across the UK.

ASCL is seeking to appoint an Independent Sector Specialist to influence national education policy and to support school and college leaders.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to ensure that the views and experience of leaders in the independent sector are heard at the highest levels of government, to build or develop their own profile as an expert in education policy, and to provide tangible help and support to leaders.

The ideal candidate will have proven successful experience of senior leadership in an education setting and/or policy organisation. Their career to date will have credibility with ASCL members, particularly those in the independent sector, enabling the post holder to work collaboratively with members and stakeholders.

They will be able to think strategically and tactically, often in real time, in order to influence decision-makers and secure positive outcomes for the association’s members and children and young people. They will have the ability to develop and present sometimes challenging information and advice persuasively, accurately and concisely, both verbally and in writing, to senior colleagues, stakeholders and members.

The successful candidate will join an extremely well-regarded and supportive team of policy specialists who each focus on different aspects of education policy but work together to provide cohesive advice to government and support to members.

The post-holder will be home-based, although the role involves some travel across the UK to attend meetings with key stakeholders and deliver training and consultancy to members. IT and telephone equipment will be provided.

This is a 0.4 FTE post. The role is paid on a five-point incremental range from £57,508 to £63,564. We offer a very generous package of benefits, including a pension scheme to which the association contributes 9%. Reasonable travel and out-of-pocket expenses are also covered, including a working from home allowance.

ASCL is committed to equality of opportunity for all our staff. We encourage applications regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
