Job Role - Developer

Primary Objective

Working within the support and development area of the IT Department with the primary role of user request analysis, systems design, development and maintenance of key business systems.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Development

  • Document, write and test new systems, interfaces and amendments to existing routines from formal or informal specifications.
  • Provide detailed program documentation including flowcharts, operator/user instructions and related testing materials.
  • Analyse business and user requirements and produce functional specifications.
  • Prepares appropriate test data, perform testing, modify, revise and make debug corrections to assure completeness according to pre-determined requirements.
  • Manage user acceptance and the delivery of new software.
  • Recommend changes in systems and procedures that would benefit the business, IT and/or user departments.
  • Keep the IT Manager informed of issues arising.
  • Evaluates 3rd party software and where appropriate integrate this to current systems.
  • Undertake major project work as directed by the IT Manager.

 

Support

  • Maintain progress status and actions taken in response to support issues via the Online Call Logging System.
  • Identify and resolve to a satisfactory conclusion any system/user issue/problem in the most efficient manner so as to cause as little disruption as possible.
  • Refer calls back to the Help Desk with details of the fix via the Online Call Logging system.
  • Keep the IT Manager informed of issues arising.

General

  • Cover for other members of the department when they are unavailable and contribute to maintaining the integrity of the company systems as a whole.
  • Perform other duties as and when necessary related to fulfilling the main duties and responsibilities above.

Standard of Operation

  • Set and maintain operating standards and work practices within the department in line with corporate policies and guidelines.
  • Implement all Company procedures and policies and promptly inform the IT Manager and/or other departments, where necessary, of any issues arising.
  • Ensure effective communication is achieved between the department and all other areas of the business.

Skills/Experience

  • Oracle Applications
  • EPOS Applications /Retail
  • Data Warehousing  - maintenance, indexing and development
  • Business Intelligence and Data Modelling
  • SQL Server 2000 / 2008 Design
  • Tables/Views
  • Stored Procedures
  • Data Transformation Services
  • Possess a Computing / Computer Science degree and one or two certifications from entities such as HDI or Microsoft (Microsoft Certified IT Professional or Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator).
  • Proven track record of working on and delivering large scale IT projects.
  • Hold a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
