Do you have experience or an interest in practical conservation projects?

We’re hiring and looking for a motivated individual to join the Land & Water team as a River Restoration Officer at Shropshire Wildlife Trust.

Rivers across England have suffered degradation and experience poor ecological resilience, we are committed to tackling these issues at scale. Working with landowners and land managers, the Land & Water team deliver practical conservation and habitat improvements on third party land across Shropshire. We deliver a broad range of work programmes from small-scale individual interventions to catchment wide project partnerships.

We are now looking to expand our team with this exciting position leading on innovative restorative interventions to mitigate against the impacts of low flows in the River Worfe catchment. This role will work with landowners and stakeholders alike to deliver impactful restoration and contribute to the Trust’s ambitious ecological objectives.

About You

Working as part of the Land & Water team you will be under the direct supervision of the Land & Water Technical Manager who will support you through the process of identifying sites, gaining permissions and navigating Partnership delivery. You will also be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team that delivers a range of habitat improvement works and land management advice.

This post is suited to someone who can negotiate effectively with farmers and landowners and wider members of the Partnership.

What do you need:

  • Relevant environmental qualification/s in a land and/or water management subject

  • A understanding the pressures on riverine systems

  • Have a sound understanding of wetland & riparian ecology and catchment management.

  • Knowledge of the farmed environment and biodiversity

  • Computer literate in MS Office

  • A Full Driving Licence and your own vehicle

It would be advantageous to have experience of practical conservation project management but this is not essential.  This role may be well suited to a post graduate.

This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic, progressive and action-led team who are committed to investing in their staff. If you have the desire and determination to work at the forefront of practical conservation delivery and help us halt biodiversity decline, then we would like to hear from you.

The Trust is committed to building a diverse workforce and is developing an Agile working policy which will allow colleagues to work in a flexible manner

Shropshire Wildlife Trust (SWT) has a vision of a thriving natural world, where Shropshire's wildlife and natural habitats play a valued role in addressing the climate and ecological emergencies, and people are inspired and empowered to take action for nature. We combine projects across Shropshire (including Telford & Wrekin) with advocacy and campaigning to restore nature and to engage people. We manage over 40 nature reserves and have almost 50 staff, 300 volunteers, and over 9000 members. SWT is an autonomous charity, but we are increasingly working collectively, as part of The Wildlife Trusts (TWT), to ensure that our local actions have a national impact and help to address global issues.

We value courage, respect, integrity, trust and responsibility. Whilst we are passionate in promoting our aims, we are not judgemental and are inclusive. We want our people to be as diverse as nature, so we particularly encourage applications from people who are underrepresented within our sector, including people from minority backgrounds and people with disabilities. We are committed to creating a movement that recognises and truly values individual differences and identities.

As a Disability Confident employer, we are committed to offering an interview to anyone with a disability that meets all the essential criteria for the post. Please let us know if you require any adjustments to make our recruitment process more accessible.
