ABOUT THE ROLE

Liberty Merchant Bar have an opportunity for a Quality Manager working for the Quality Assurance and Technical department at the LMB Scunthorpe site.

The role is to provide a technical, metallurgical, and quality assurance service to LMB. This will include maintaining processing standards, to internal and external customer ordered requirements, to ensure that product is fit for purpose and customer satisfaction is assured.

 

Continuous improvement is fundamental to the role, this will include root cause analysis and corrective actions will be routinely applied to drive business excellence in customer, operational, technical and yield initiatives.

Direct management of testing and related quality control activities is integral to the role.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 As Quality Manager you will:

  • Manage three direct reports, covering testing, release, and certification of all stock.
  • Provide a technical and metallurgical service and identify areas for improvement on process routes and yields.
  • Lead and coordinate investigations into major internal and external issues.
  • Take ownership of an extensive QA system, maintaining business approvals.
  • Conduct internal and external audits.
  • Manage and report on the various key performance indicators within the area.
  • Facilitate quality aspects relating to Daily Management
  • Identify and progress areas of improvement from analysis data trends. This requires a structured and systematic approach to problem solving.
  • Work closely with other members of the LMB management team to develop and implement improvement plans.
  • Liaise across Departments and Functions to ensure that customer ordered requirements are met to standard, at the lowest cost. (Contract of Supply management is a key aspect of this).
  • Lead all audit activities associated with both internal and external audits.
  • Flexible working arrangements will be an integral part of the role. Whilst the job role is based within the LMB business, the business model can dictate working closely across the supply chain, or within upstream / downstream departments, to ensure that through processing and product issues are fully understood.

 

 

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • The job holder will be ideally educated to degree level in Metallurgy / Materials with significant relevant experience in a steel works environment.
  • Knowledge of QA principals and problem-solving techniques are required as well as an awareness of the key processes of the department.
  • The jobholder must be able to relate to and communicate with the workforce of the department as well as with staff across the functions, at all levels.
  • The jobholder must be capable of resolving problems of a quality and process nature, both on site and with customers.
  • Any other methods deemed necessary to meet business requirements
