Binnies, an RSK company are recruiting a Hydraulic Engineer to join our team in Redhill .

Your focus will be to carry out hydraulic engineering and design calculations, computational analysis and hydraulic modelling for a range of hydraulic engineering work, including water and wastewater treatment works, pipelines and pumping systems, and hydraulic structures. Candidate may have a civil or mechanical engineering background and will receive high quality on-the-job training from industry experts, but some prior knowledge, experience, and/or interest in hydraulics would be expected. Opportunities would be available to develop capabilities further in related areas, such as pipeline and tunnel transient modelling, or computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Several opportunities exist, for candidates with a range of different levels of experience.

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertake a range of hydraulic calculations and design work
  • Construction of hydraulic models for treatment works, pipelines, tunnels, intakes and outfalls, using standard spreadsheets and in-house or proprietary software
  • Carry out hydraulic studies and prepare technical reports
  • Deliver project tasks to budget and programme
  • Liaise with clients and other external organisations as needed
  • Supervise junior team members
     

Skills and Competencies
Essential:

  • Competent in the use of MS Word and Excel
  • Pro-active approach to work
  • Attention to detail, and focus on quality
  • Ability to apply knowledge to non-standard situations
  • Team player, working with others to deliver results.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and external organisations.
  • Ability to write clearly and concisely, producing high quality reports.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hydraulics.
  • Good understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes and the hydraulic layout and design of treatment works.
  • Understanding of construction and operational requirements for treatment works and the implications for hydraulic design.
  • Ability to read and mark up design drawings

Beneficial:

  • Ability to work in Redhill, Surrey office, at least on occasional basis
  • Experience with programming/macro writing.
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of hydraulic modelling software
  • Experience in related hydraulic discipline, such as network modelling (ICM, SWMM5), pipeline/tunnel hydraulic modelling, or computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
  • Experience in water quality modelling.
  • Experience with design of pumping stations

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree qualified in Engineering from a leading University.

Desirable

  • Chartered, or working towards Chartered status in relevant institution such as ICE, IMechE or CIWEM.
