The Vacancy
Purpose of Role:
As an active member of the Technology and Process Innovation team working on innovative projects, a Senior Biophysical Scientist will support the development of advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs) and associated technology for multiple clients and Collaborators working with the CGT Catapult. The role of Senior Biophysical Scientist will interact closely with CGT Catapult teams at the CGT Catapult Braintree and CGT Catapult Edinburgh Centres when required. Specifically the role will involve the application of biophysical principles to provide insights and understanding that support ongoing development and optimisation activities for cell and gene therapy manufacture.
Key Accountabilities:
Provide subject matter expertise in biophysics and contribute this to process development, optimisation and digital twin/model development through experimental and theoretical work.
Working in a matrix-team environment contribute biophysical expertise and influence the design and planning of laboratory work.
Approving experimental plans, witnessing completed experiments in the electronic laboratory notebook, ensuring raw data is processed according to data integrity guidelines and stored according to company policies.
Record, analyse and communicate experimental findings in electronic laboratory notebooks, scientific reports, posters and peer-reviewed publications and present results internally and to external collaborators.
Enabling the quality and timely delivery of scientific research produced by the laboratory teams for assigned projects through matrix management of scientists and technicians.
Production of protocols, plans, risk assessments, SOPs, and documentation to allow development of experimental protocols and transfer to internal manufacture development and/or external clients or designated contract manufacturers.
Supporting the business development team as a subject matter expert to facilitate new commercial and collaborative R&D projects.
Support the personal development of more junior members of the team through line management responsibilities and matrix management.
Act as “super user” for appropriate equipment and provide training to team members from the analytical, process development and manufacturing and clinical teams as required.
Experience:
Extensive and demonstratable experience in biophysics/physical chemistry.
Experience in the application of physical theory and mathematical approaches to understand nanoscale and/or biophysical systems.
Experience of the application of experimental methodologies for characterization of nanoscale and biophysical systems and their interactions.
Experience of multivariate data analysis and/or machine learning.
Experience in analysis or chemometric modelling of spectroscopic data is desirable.
Exposure to molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and working with relevant subject matter experts is desirable.
Awareness of molecular biology and/or analytical chemistry is desirable.
Experience of mammalian cell bioprocessing/culture OR working in a multidisciplinary research environment is desirable.
Knowledge / Skills / Competencies:
