An exciting opportunity for a Track Construction CRE / Contractors Responsible Engineer to join the established and growing AmcoGiffen rail business in the Southern & Western business regions.

 

Business Unit

Having secured a number of projects and long term Frameworks with key clients, AmcoGiffen are further expanding our technical capability within the rail industry. AmcoGiffen has a vacancy for the role of Track Construction CRE (Contractors Responsible Engineer), with regional responsibility for the technical interface of permanent way / track on our portfolio of rail civil engineering projects throughout the region.

 

Amco Giffen’s project and framework portfolio typically consists of Infrastructure and Capital Delivery projects, Asset Maintenance frameworks, maintenance and renewals of railway infrastructure including but not limited to; bridge re-construction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, station work (platforms etc.), access for all schemes, structures including overbridges and under bridges, tunnels and footbridges – many of which have significant permanent way interface requiring technical expertise and input throughout the project lifecycle.

 

The Role

The Track CRE will work throughout Southern and Western Routes with responsibility for the safe and efficient delivery of the track element of multi-disciplinary and civils projects. These works will vary from culvert works under our Minor Works Frameworks through to overseeing the renewal of track associated with underbridge renewal schemes. Reporting to the Regional Track CRE this role will involve the planning and subsequent implementation of track monitoring and Critical Rail Temperature management works, as well as undertaking gauging and track handback activities. During the design phase the Track CRE will oversee the production of track discipline design deliverables.

 

Duties and responsibilities may include but not be limited to:

  • Undertake Contractors Responsible Engineer duties under NR/L2/RSE/02009 and NR/L2/TRK/2500.
  • Lead and manage all track engineering activities for your team.
  • Manage, control, plan and implement track engineering activities.
  • Monitor and improve engineering competence of the team.
  • Plan and undertake briefings on engineering issues.
  • Assist the CEM with engineering initiatives.
  • Assist the Competence Manager with engineering competence assessments.
  • Devise the track methodology for undertaking track and associated track work at tender stage.
  • Oversee subcontract resources to ensure works are delivered in accordance with the approved design.
  • Ensure compliance with Track Monitoring and Critical Rail Temperature Management standards.
  • Constructive reviews at IDC /IDR conforming design to prime contract requirements and proposal commitments.
  • Review and approve all PWay led designs.
  • Resolve technical problems and provide advice and guidance on track issues.
  • Assess civils schemes for any interface with PWay.
  • Originate/Approve Track Monitoring Plans
  • CRT management in accordance with Network Rail standards for all schemes (NR/L3/TRK/7012)
  • Input and coordinate review of constructability, value engineering and contractor preferences throughout project life cycle.
  • Assist in creation of engineering site documentation.
  • Review all necessary site documentation.
  • Develop and Maintain Effective Working Relationships.
  • Promoting a continuous improvement culture and the use of best practice
  • Support and coordinate hand back process for project close out.
  • Carry out site audits as required.
  • Ensure technical tools and equipment are maintained and calibrated.

 

Requirements

To excel in this role, you will have previous experience as a Track Construction CRE (Contractors Responsible Engineer) in a similar rail contractor organisation. Other essential criteria is as follows:

  • Considerable experience in the rail sector as a Track Construction CRE.
  • An in-depth understanding of P-Way (track) and civil engineering principles.
  • A clear understanding of track and civil engineering construction methods and how they should be implemented.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Network Rail’s GRIP process.

 

Academic Qualifications

  • Minimum BEng Degree level of education, or equivalent.
  • Must be ‘Track Inducted’.

 

Professional Qualifications

  • Chartered Member of a relevant Professional Body - desirable. (e.g. PWI or ICE)
  • CSCS Professionally Qualified Person, or similar.
