As a specialist Domestic Abuse Housing Advocate you’ll work in partnership with local authorities across North Staffordshire to support customers around domestic abuse and homelessness. You’ll deliver focused and tailored one-to-one support to help them start their new chapter and live a life free from abuse.

Job requirements

  • Work with local authorities to complete risk assessments and create plans for customers impacted by homelessness and domestic abuse.
  • Work with customers to co-ordinate a trauma-informed, asset-based support programme. This will guide the customer and their family through their longer-term housing journey to help them achieve their own personal goals.
  • Advocate for customers and support them to engage with both internal and external agencies and access the services they need.
  • Support and provide information for, or attend, meetings as required. You’ll do this to support organisational, commissioner, multi-agency and partner organisation reports and reviews.
  • Build links with local authorities, including the out-of-hours service and rough sleeper teams, to make sure customers are supported quickly.
  • Deliver training to colleagues and other professionals to increase their confidence in responding to disclosures of domestic abuse.

What we’re looking for

  • A good level of education such as GCSE English and maths, or equivalent.
  • One year’s experience supporting adults with complex needs such as domestic abuse and homelessness.
  • Experience of delivering support to customers and recognising individual needs.
  • A genuine understanding of people in abusive relationships.
  • Someone with good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Someone with a passion for supporting people in a non-judgemental way.
  • Full UK driving licence and use of your own vehicle for work.
  • DBS check.
