This is a great opportunity for someone looking to advance their career within an expanding Financial Services business. In this role you will have direct responsibility for the maintenance of systems that have wide-reaching impact on numerous business applications. The role has scope to be involved in both short and long-term pieces of work

 

The successful candidate will interact with colleagues at all levels of the business and deal with users of IT services, IT teams, clients, suppliers and third parties. You will join a team of database professionals with vast knowledge and skill in Database design and maintenance

 

The role:

 

  • You will provide advice and guidance on systems design, writing and optimizing SQL queries and using your experience to offer solutions to any SQL server related issues and provide support/be subject matter expert
  • Use monitor tools (i.e. Spotlight) act upon incidents and service requests logged with the Service Desk, ensuring service tickets are resolved in a timely manner and with a high degree of expertise
  • Refine physical database design to meet system storage requirements
  • Install new applications and customize existing applications to ensure they are fit for purpose
  • Manage security and disaster recovery of a database
  • Install and test new version of database management systems (DBMS)
  • Maintain database standards including adhering to data protection act and GDPR requirements
  • Work directly on business-driven projects and change requests
  • Write database documentation including procedures and definitions to the internal knowledge base
  • Ensure the storage and archiving procedures are functioning correctly (i.e. Ola Hallengren scripts, CommVault)
  • Cloud/Azure and Azure backups
  • Work closely with SQL developers

 

About You:

  • Experience in Financial Services or heavily regulated industry
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team or independently when needed
  • Expert TSQL - 2012 – 2019
  • Good understanding including troubleshooting of SSRS and SSIS packages
  • SQL server replication
  • Always On/Availability Groups knowledge
  • Query optimisation and performance tuning
  • SQL data migrations
  • Installation and configuration of SQL
  • Dev lifecycle/database progression: i.e. Dev/Test/UAT/Pre-prod/Production
  • SQL server patching and upgrades
  • PowerShell remote server management
  • Awareness of anonymisation requirements & tools
  • Ability to understand business complexity and application interdependencies
  • Strong motivational skills to deliver tasks in difficult circumstances
  • Self-motivated, proactive and customer focused with excellent organisational to work on improvement projects
  • Experience of working in change control and third-party suppliers and partners
  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot problems that may arise
  • Strong analytical, written and verbal skills
  • Comfortable managing small scale projects to time and budget if required.
  • Knowledge of ITSM tools, e.g. ServiceNow
  • Technical Documentation skills
