If you are looking to develop your career in health and safety or social housing, this is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual who has proven technical skills to play a crucial role in providing specialist support on all property-related Health and Safety matters to help achieve our business ambitions and meet our statutory obligations.

About us

We are an award-winning not for profit housing association that currently owns nearly 8,600 homes across County Durham.  We offer more than just a home. We help improve the lives of the people living in our homes and in our places.  We work hard to make sure those homes are high quality, sustainable and adaptable, while meeting tenants’ current and future aspirations. We offer support that help people into work and training and increase their financial confidence and stability.

There is no Plan B. There is no Planet B either. Now in the third and final phase of our nine-year Plan A, our strategy for 2022-25 and beyond requires ourselves, our suppliers, partners and customers to raise our game with a primary focus on supporting sustainable places. To achieve this our new build and acquisition programme, regeneration work and home improvement programme will all be focused on improving lives through sustainable homes and places.

About the role

The health and wellbeing of our tenants is our main priority, and in this role, you will support the development of all property health and safety service initiatives to deliver innovative solutions that meet real needs.

Working with colleagues in Property Services, you will ensure that Health and Safety planning is integral to building, repairing, maintaining, and improving our assets.  You will also make a real impact in shaping our future, as we look to create safer homes for our tenants by driving our response to the rapidly emerging statutory and regulatory obligations relating to property health and safety.

About you

You will have demonstrable practical experience of conducting fire risk assessments and have achieved your NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety. Experience of asbestos management within a social housing environment would be desirable, but full support and funding would be given to enable you to attain competency and a relevant qualification in this discipline.

You will be passionate about developing your career in the health & safety field with a key focus on compliance to ensure the safety of our tenants.  Your technical skills, knowledge and experience coupled with behaviours closely aligned to our values will ensure you successfully deal with complex, challenging, and contentious situations.
