The Role:

The Teacher Naturalist role is pivotal in delivering captivating wildlife experiences that encourage both formal and informal education groups to actively engage and champion conservation efforts for nature.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and deliver diverse, secure, and top-tier wildlife experiences inspiring groups towards nature conservation.
  • Engage with communities and educational entities both digitally and through in-person interactions.
  • Enhance learning resources at Montrose Basin visitor centre via innovative face-to-face and digital resource packs.

Main Objectives:

  • Execute safe, accessible, and high-quality wildlife experiences fostering action for nature among education groups.
  • Adhere rigorously to Trust health, safety guidelines, and child safeguarding procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher Naturalist to develop and improve learning resources.
  • Monitor activity quality, record achievements, and identify avenues for enhancement.
  • Participate in essential training to maintain necessary skills and safety qualifications.

 

The ideal candidate for the Teacher Naturalist position should possess essential qualifications, including an HNC/HND in environmental, educational, or community involvement, a First Aid qualification suitable for outdoor settings, membership in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme, and demonstrable experience in delivering both formal and informal education, particularly with children. The successful candidate will ideally be able to effectively engage and educate diverse audiences while promoting nature conservation and fostering a deeper connection to the environment.
