The Vacancy

Airplay is a national youth work programme delivered on behalf of the RAF Benevolent Fund (RAFBF). Airplay Clubs are for children aged eight to 18, which includes our digital Airplay Connect service and Ben Clubs which provide fun activities for children aged five to seven.

Hours and pay: we need you to join us every Tuesday 3:45 – 17:45 for our Ben Club sessions (5 – 7), and Thursday, 3.45pm – 8:45pm for our Junior (8 – 10) and Senior (11 – 18) Airplay sessions. This amounts to 7 hours per week in total, with plenty of opportunities for overtime.

Working times may change in holiday periods to cover activity programmes so some flexibility would be useful. Any timings of hours and/or overtime would be agreed in partnership with your line manager.

Reporting to the Station Youth Worker, an Airplay Worker supports with the delivery of a range of outreach and centre based youth work with young people aged 5-18 years and in line with the Airplay Theory of Change and YMCA Youth Work Strategy and Principles. Training can be given for this role.

One YMCA and its subsidiaries, the Early Childhood Partnership (ECP) and Signpost are on an exciting journey to double our impact by 2025. The aim of Mission 25 is to give every staff member and volunteer the opportunity to play their part in shaping the strategy to do “more and better, together” so that we double our impact by 2025. We deliver a vast array of services across Herts, Beds and Bucks that reach over 135,000 individuals annually.

These include:

  • Provision of over 700 units of accommodation for homeless people
  • Move on accommodation for individuals moving onto independent living
  • Housing and practical/emotional support for young asylum seekers
  • Community HUBs hosting a range of activities and meeting space hire
  • Childcare provision in Hertfordshire
  • Family support through a network of children’s and family centres covering Hertfordshire and Bedford
  • Therapeutic and non-therapeutic support for male and female victims of domestic abuse and their children
  • Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire
  • Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire
  • Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 11-19 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund
