About the College

  • Middlesbrough College is the largest General Further Education College in the Tees Valley and has been situated in Middlehaven, Middlesbrough, since 2008.  It has developed from the initial main site to the vibrant campus that is now in place with our Campus Heart, dedicated Sixth Form, STEM Centre, Higher Education Centre, and further development for our apprentices in progress.

About the role  

This role entails in holding weekly Thrive sessions with tutor groups that are highly informative and up to date with relevant Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG).  A key part of your role will be offering advice, guidance and support to enable students to be prepared for progression to apprenticeship or HE.  You will be supporting the monitoring and management of attendance and behaviour issues by liaising with parents/guardians / employers where necessary. You will be responsible for supporting and preparing students for their next steps (including overseeing UCAS applications, CV scrutiny and apprenticeship interview support including work placement.

The successful candidate will have:  

Qualifications
 

  • To hold a relevant Degree, or equivalent.
  • GCSEs at Grade C / Level 4 or above in English and Maths, or equivalent.
  • Careers/Advice & Guidance qualification – Desirable
  • Coaching/Mentoring qualification – Desirable
  • Teaching qualification (or willing to work towards completion)- Desirable

Experience
 

  • Relevant experience in an educational (or similar) setting.
  • Experience of working with young people or providing guidance to students
  • Effective liaison with external agencies - Desirable
  • Experience of providing pastoral support, e.g., personal tutor, apprenticeships, wellbeing support to learners - Desirable.

Knowledge & Skills

 

  • Knowledge of the range of courses offered in Post 16 education that are progression routes for students studying at TTE.
  • Knowledge of careers information, advice, and guidance
  • Knowledge of Higher Education, Apprenticeship, and other study routes beyond TTE.
  • Current knowledge of the Ofsted EIF, and the impact of this on Personal Development and Behaviour and Attitudes.
  • Knowledge of current evidence-based research/best practice in teaching, learning and assessment. - Desirable
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and presentation skills
  • Be able to multi-task and demonstrate good time management
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Be able to work as part of a team and to develop and maintain positive relationships with all staff 
  • The ability to prepare high quality materials for taught tutorial sessions including the effective use of Information Learning Technology supported by key software (Office 365).
  • Be able to communicate positively with key stakeholders, including parents, students, and employers where necessary
