Rainbows Hospice are currently seeking a hospital-based Family Support Worker to join our incredible team as we continue to expand and launch our exciting new range of services which aims to meet the needs of more families - not just within the Hospice building, but also in our local hospitals and local communities.

Families of children with serious or terminal conditions are often overwhelmed by the challenge of caring for their children; the complexities of working with many professionals, services, and appointments; and the difficulties of maintaining family life and employment.

However, Rainbows is committed to supporting families at every step. As a Rainbows Hospital Family Support Worker, you will play a vital role in helping families through one of the most challenging times of their lives, making sure families are aware of the wider support available to them, and able to access the help they might need.

This role would require you to work and travel from Nottingham Hospitals and Leicester Hospitals as well as attend the Hospice in Loughborough for team meetings and days required.

This role is 30 hours per week, with flexibility between Monday and Friday, and the requirement to work occasional weekends depending on service needs or for events.

Within this role you will be fully supported and guided by the Palliative Care Team.

Some of the key responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • To facilitate the provision of ongoing emotional support to families.
  • To act as the point of contact other members of the multi-disciplinary team, parents, children, and young people.
  • To provide signposting and/or practical assistance to enable the families to access the information and practical support required such as, signposting to other services, charity support, benefits, and financial guidance.
  • To ensure that the families’ individual needs are met, including the cultural, ethnic, and spiritual aspects.
  • To liaise with other professionals/agencies involved with a family to ensure continuity of care.

The ideal candidate will have relevant NVQ qualification or equivalent as well as a strong understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults. It is essential that you have experience working with babies, children and/or young people with palliative care needs and experience in offering emotional and/or bereavement support. Due to this role requiring travel between Nottingham hospitals and Leicester hospitals, as well as the Hospice in Loughborough, it would be ideal for you to have your own transport.
