This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

Main Purpose of the Role:

To be the LCY Subject Matter Expert (SME) for high voltage, low voltage and hazardous area electrical systems and equipment, representing London City Airport (LCY) at site authorisation meetings.

In support of the Engineering Operations Manager, you’ll ensure that significant risk electrical engineering activities, operations, safe systems of work and assets across LCY comply with relevant legislation and regulations, as well as provide professional engineering support to operational areas.

 

Main Tasks of the Job:

  • Act as Assessor for the operational appointment of Authorised Persons (AP) (Elect) at LCY so as to ensure safe and compliant operations.
  • Act as the focal point for the CDM client or project manager for all construction works to initiate the necessary exchange of pre-construction information and inform design and build deliberations.
  • Act as a focal point ensuring that all safety notices relating to infrastructure, systems and services are produced, communicated and actioned accordingly. Also, you’ll provide competent, independent and impartial professional advice to management at LCY in relation to the regulatory compliance of facilities and systems.
  • Supporting the H&S team in matters of electrical safety.
  • Authorising and administration of electrical safety rules. Maintenance of rules in line with legislative, regulatory or industry changes.
  • Providing professional and technical guidance on electrical construction & electrical contracting delivery. Ensuring that any amendments to the LV Electrical Safety Rules are brought to the attention of, and are understood by, all LCY Authorised Persons and Competent Persons (CP).
  • Undertakes AP and CP audits and annual appraisals.
  • Manage and keep updated the campus Electrical Schematic drawing.
  • Develop and implement an LV Maintenance regime to all campus switchgear not currently addressed by UKPNS or SSE, including switch room audits.
  • Manage HV and LV shutdowns in coordination with LCY stakeholders and partners.
  • Plan and coordinate LCY EICR activities and collate associated campus certification.
  • Manage Electrical projects as required.

 

Key Competencies:

  • HV Senior Authorised Person (current)
  • Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer.
  • Recognised Electrical Apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 18th Edition - City and Guilds.
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor – can gain in post.
  • IOSH/NEBOSH – can gain in post.
  • Must be able to achieve security clearance for this role.

 

Qualifications, Specialist Skills & Knowledge:

  • Experienced in verifying safe systems of work.
  • Ideally registered with a relevant engineering institution as a Chartered Engineer.
  • Incorporated Engineer will be considered based on additional experience.
  • Recent experience of working as an Authorising Engineer or an Electrical Site Supervisor.
  • A full Valid UK driving License (essential)
  • First Aid Trained (essential)
  • IPAF Trained (desirable)
  • Forklift trained (desirable)

Hours of Work:

  • Full time permanent role
  • Monday to Friday
  • On occasion, you will be required to work outside of the stated hours and days
