Curo, a leading Housing Association in Bath, is seeking a committed individual to take on the role of a Specialist Support Worker, to join the Young Persons team, which forms part of the care and support element within Curo.

Young Persons homelessness is a growing issue in the UK. Supporting young people who are facing homelessness is a rewarding job, where you can make a positive difference every day. Curo’s Mediation service offers support to young people and families in B&NES to manage conflict and come to agreed resolutions and prevent homelessness.

A passion for working with both young people and families is essential for this role.

This role is for a fixed term contract ending March 2025

Curo’s Young Persons Services team are motivated, committed, and flexible in their roles supporting young people and families.  The team are friendly, supportive, fun and compassionate.  The role is rewarding and stretching and will give you the opportunity to work with, and positively influence young people to help shape their futures.

What you'll be doing

As our Specialist Support Worker, your primary objective is to prevent young person homelessness in BANES.

Your main duties will include:

  • You will be the first point of contact, managing referrals to the young person’s service.
  • You will work closely with families, providing mediation to prevent homelessness.
  • You will work closely with local external agencies, such as social care, housing options, Youth Connect Southwest and Project 28.
  • Completing risk and support needs assessments.
  • Providing transition support to supported accommodation for young persons on waiting lists.

More about you

To be great at what you do, you’ll need to be able to get stuck in, knowing every day will be different.

The successful Specialist Support Worker will ideally have the following background and skills:

  • You will enjoy working with young people and supporting young people to maintain their accommodation.
  • You’ll be able to build effective relationships with a wide range of people including customers and colleagues, with an ability to influence and negotiate.
  • You will be able to build positive and professional relationships with local agencies and other professionals.
  • You will be able to work effectively, without judgement, but with a strong sense of professional boundaries.
  • You’ll be comfortable with dealing with challenging conversations, remaining confident and firm, whilst being respectful and considerate.
  • You’ll have the skills to listen to and recognise what it is that our customers really want and be committed to achieving the best possible outcomes.
  • You’ll have strong administrative skills and experience of writing reports and maintaining accurate records.
  • You will understand the need for support planning, risk assessment and inspiring young people to recognise and achieve their goals.
  • You’ll have good resilience and an understanding of the issues faced by young people facing homelessness.

When and where you'll be doing it

You will be working with Curo’s Young Person services locations around Bath, and local agencies within BANES. A driving license and access to a car is essential for this role.
