Due to our services being more in demand than ever before we would like you to join us operating across the UK in our CHEC Hospitals and Community Centres.

 

CHEC are looking for Ophthalmology Consultants with special interest in vitreoretinal (VR) surgery.

 

The post holder will be required to perform a range of vitreoretinal appointments and surgeries on patients referred to CHEC with elective VR conditions e.g. macular holes, ERMs, VMT, etc.   working in accordance with CHEC treatment protocols and working practices. You may also have involvement in General Ophthalmology treatment protocols.

The post holder will deliver high quality clinical care to patients attending the ophthalmology service in the following areas:

  • Elective vitreoretinal surgery, not involving emergency conditions (ret de)
  • Vitreoretinal clinics
  • High volume phacoemulsification under topical anaesthesia if applicable

 

To be successful in this role

  • Applicants will be expected to have an excellent clinical quality record and be able to demonstrate the ability to perform efficiently in clinics/theatre.
  • Experience working as an Ophthalmology Consultant.
  • Applicants must have also completed at least one year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery

 

 

 

Person Specification

  • UK registered Medical Degree or equivalent
  • MRCOphth/FRCOphth/FRCS
  • Full or Specialist GMC Registration
  • Completed at least one year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery
  • Independent cataract surgeon
  • Independent vitreoretinal surgeon
  • Up-to-date with current medical practice
  • Wide training and experience in general ophthalmology
  • Able to offer expert clinical opinion on general ophthalmology
  • Able to take full and independent responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Understanding of audit and Clinical Governance
  • Knowledge of evidence based practice
  • Able to work within a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Flexible, objective and assertive
  • Able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms with all colleagues, both clinical and non-clinical
  • Good knowledge of and ability to use spoken and written language
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Ability to travel independently to all hospital sites
  • Willing to meet volume and clinical productivity targets
