The Vacancy
Are you an experienced HR Advisor with a solid understanding of English employment law? Do you excel in handling complex Employee Relations casework? Do you want the best of both worlds – frequent working from home combined with office work? If you thrive in a dynamic role where you can make a significant impact, we want to hear from you!
***Please read this advert carefully and follow the "How to apply" instructions shown below – we can’t accept applications without a covering statement as described below.***
About Us: We are a large, expanding and ambitious charity. Our headcount is 650 employees. You’ll join a close-knit, friendly and informal HR team. We support each other, have fun, and continuously learn and grow together. Everybody in the team contributes to our HR strategy. This is a demanding yet rewarding HR role where you will largely manage your own schedule and enjoy working under pressure. Our company values are Respect, Compassion and Growth, and this runs through every aspect of our work.
About the Role: As an HR Advisor (known internally as “Employee Relations Advisor”), you’ll ensure that all people managers maintain a positive working environment where their staff can flourish.
Owing to our positive culture, you’ll have plenty of time to coach, support, and train managers on all aspects of employee relations. But you’ll need the ability to manage complex casework when it arises. This might include long-term absence management, performance management, disciplinary and grievance issues, misconduct investigations, bullying and harassment, redundancies, work-life balance requests, and family leave. You will also support formal meetings as an adviser and note-taker.
Please read the full job description at the bottom of this vacancy listing. Feel free to browse our website for lots more information about our charitable work and achievements, company values and ethos.
About You:
To be considered for this role, you must have:
1) A thorough understanding of absence management, performance management, disciplinary & grievance issues and family leave.
2) Evidence of continuous professional development to demonstrate that you manage any gaps in your experience.
We'll consider applications from all industries and sectors. Understanding of the housing sector would be helpful but is not essential. We welcome applications from people at any stage of their careers, although this role isn’t suitable for an inexperienced HR Advisor.
Work-Life Balance and Travel: You will be initially based in Hatfield but travel occasionally to our sites across Herts, Beds and Bucks, once or twice a week or as needed. You will need your own vehicle (we will reimburse work mileage). However, this is not a role where you’ll be constantly on the road. You’re welcome to work from home two or three days a week but you must be flexible when needed. You’ll understand the importance of visibility, and will want to get to know your managers face-to-face.
HOW TO APPLY: Please ensure your covering statement covers the following points:
1) Your experience with complex casework relevant to this role. Please provide detailed information.
2) Your understanding of English employment law. This is crucial for all HR advisory roles, so we need reassurance that this is not a weak area.
We want to hear from you in your own words, not from AI!
Please ensure your CV shows your complete work history.
We will be interviewing on a rolling basis, so please don't delay applying. Previous candidates should not reapply.
