Join the dynamic team at Advanced Water Infrastructure Networks as a GIS Technician and kick-start your career in water infrastructure design and asset information management!

The GIS Technician will help Advanced Water Infrastructure Networks maintain their geographical asset information, whilst also assisting with aspects of the water infrastructure design and asset adoption processes. 

The Role 

The GIS Technician will work on the production of NAV site boundary maps and the approval and integration of asset information into AWIN corporate systems. They will be responsible for:

  • Preparing site boundary maps in ArcGIS to company standards ready for submission to Regulators.
  • Undertaking work to ensure asset information provided by self lay providers as part of the asset adoption process is managed, assessed and upload to the AWIN corporate systems by:
  • Ensuring asset and design information from self lay providers and developers is saved in the company folder system in an ordered and timely manner.
  • Maintaining the Asset Adoption Trackers, ensuring all revisions of asset information for a site are recorded.
  • Completing asset information adoption assessments inline with company standards.
  • Uploading boundary, design and as built asset information into the AWIN geographical information system.
  • During periods of increased workload, assisting the Water Design Manager with water network designs both for internal and third party projects 
  • Liaising with clients in a professional manner to secure a clear understanding of the design scope and information requirements. 
  • Assisting with the completion of soil / contaminated land report assessments to determine the most appropriate pipe material.
  • Liaising with Fire and Rescue Services on the positioning of Fire Hydrants.
  • Undertaking basic water network design work in AutoCAD.
  • Supporting the out of hours rota as and when is required, including the delivery of alternative supplies in the event of a water quality incident.

 

What are we looking for? 

The holder of this role will ideally either have worked in the fields of water asset design, adoption, or have experience of working on geographical information system, or alternatively be educated to degree level or equivalent and having gained experience of using geographical information systems during their studies. They also;

  • As a minimum the individual should either have a relevant degree or have experience of using GIS in a previous role and have GCSE level 5 in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Confident in their written and verbal communication skills and be able to undertaken basic scientific data analysis in Microsoft Excel.
  • Have experience with using AutoCAD and ArcGIS, or should be happy to learn 
  • Must hold a valid UK driving license and be willing to travel within England.
