CAD Technician 
 

Department: Fabrication ¦ Design Engineering – Structural/Steelwork Engineering
Location: Barnsley

Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled CAD Draughtsman / Design Manager specialising in structural steelwork engineering to join our fabrication team. This role involves utilising CAD and Advanced Steel Software packages for the detailed design and drafting of structural steelwork intended for fabrication.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively suggest innovative solutions and identify any compliance issues with CDM Regulations.
  • Work in line with prescribed CAD standards and practices.
  • Challenge design briefs and recommend alternatives that promote innovative and clear engineering solutions.
  • Participate in site inspections and surveys to inform the drafting of drawings and details.
  • Interpret and execute instructions from designers regarding technical production of engineering drawings and schedules in compliance with current Codes of Practice, standards, and best practices.
  • Convert standard and proprietary manufacturer’s details into working drawings.
  • Ensure all produced drawings meet the designated quality standards.
  • Verify dimensional accuracy and compliance with provided drawings and specifications.
  • Identify and document items relevant to the Designer’s Risk Assessment and Decision Log as necessary.
  • Prepare design data for distribution, including printing drawings and associated documents.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and ensure all documentation is accurately completed.
  • Coordinate with AmcoGiffen Project Delivery staff to confirm or record working details.
  • Implement BIM principles in project delivery where applicable.
  • Contribute to process improvements and the development of efficient CAD tools to enhance engineering service delivery.

 

Requirements:

  • NVQ / C&G level qualification or equivalent.
  • Progressing towards membership in a relevant Professional Body (e.g. EngTech).
  • Hold a CSCS Professionally Qualified Person certification or equivalent.
  • Sentinel Personal Track Safety (PTS) competence for both AC and DC systems.
  • Valid Driver’s Licence.
  • Experience in a similar role with Tekla software
