We are looking for a self-motivated and dynamic Skills Coach to join our join our prison industries team and play a pivotal role in the rehabilitation and resettlement of prisoners.

You will be working closely with instructors to support learners in developing their work skills which will enhance their chances of employability. You will provide support and guidance to learners so they record their skills and work experiences along with motivating and keeping the learners engaged. In this exciting position, you will collaborate closely with prison industries instructors to support prisoners in developing valuable work skills and enhancing their employability. Your mission will be to empower prisoners to recognize and record their skills and work experiences, motivating them to fully engage in their work.

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by equipping prisoners with essential skills that can lead to successful reintegration into the workforce and society.

Key Responsibilities:

•              Liaise with the Activity Hub to identify prisoners who meet the criteria for the service.

•              Assess the prisoners ‘start point’ in terms of their existing skill set, experience and career aspirations.

•              Signpost support for prisoners where specific learning difficulties or disabilities and / or other barriers have been identified.

•              Support and encourage prisoners to develop their personal, social and employability skills, including in

English and mathematics, required to achieve their core learning aims and reinforce the importance of these skills in the context of their next steps and employment opportunities.

•              Encourage positive attitudes and behaviours towards education, training, and employment.

•              Facilitate in cell learning/information materials to engage or improve outcomes for prisoners.

•              Update prisoner records on the Prison National Offender Management Information System (PNOMIS).

•              Virtual Campus (VC), Curious and any other system as required by management.

Coaching and Assessing

  • Motivating, empowering and coaching prisoners to build on existing skills and develop new ones in the context of their work placement.
  • Observing and assessing prisoners against agreed employability competencies such as teamwork, communication and problem solving.
  • Recognising progress, challenging appropriate behaviour and encouraging reflective practice in prisoners.
  • Delivering classroom-based employability programs.
  • Providing support with self-employment.
  • Supporting prisoners to record progress in their Education and Training Portfolios.

 

Quality and Admin

  • Ensure all prescribed company processes, systems, and ethical standards are always met such as accurate and timely tracking and recording of the Participants journey, referral to internal and external provision, referral to vacancies etc.
  • Maintain prisoners files and data (paper and database) to 100% accuracy at the first, and every subsequent instance of completion.

Requirements:

A passion for coaching and supporting others on their path to success.

Experience in employability skills development or a similar role.

Strong communication and motivational skills.

Ability to foster a supportive and inclusive environment.
