The Vacancy
The Bar Council represents over 18,000 barristers in England and Wales. It promotes the Bar’s high-quality specialist advocacy and advisory services; fair access to justice for all; the highest standards of ethics, equality and diversity across the profession; and the development of business opportunities for barristers at home and abroad.
The Bar Council is the governing body and the Approved Regulator for the Bar of England and Wales. It discharges its regulatory functions through the independent Bar Standards Board.
We are looking to hire a highly motivated individual to work within the Records Department to assist with the maintenance of barristers’ records at the Bar of England and Wales Accurate record keeping is integral as this underpins the work which is undertaken in the wider organisation.
The successful applicant will need to have excellent attention to detail and experience maintaining membership records. They will also need very good communications skills as they will be a first point of contact on the telephone, taking queries from barristers, chambers, solicitors, the Inns of Court, members of the public and other departments.
It would be desirable if the successful applicant has experience using a Microsoft Dynamics CRM as they will be required to update and amend the practising and personal details for barristers on our records.
The role is Monday to Friday, 9am until 5pm with a one hour unpaid lunch.
During the months of February to April each year when the annual Authorisation to Practise renewal takes place, there may also be the requirement to work some additional hours to meet demand.
Availability to take annual leave is limited during the months of February to April.

First point of contact on the telephone and live chat, taking queries from barristers, chambers, solicitors, the Inns of Court, members of the public and other departments.
Taking payments for Practising Certificates, Bar Representation Fees, Advocate Donations and Certificates of Good Standing.
Assisting barristers with the online renewal of their Practising Certificate.
Updating barristers’ practice details on our CRM, including processing applications for Practising Certificates.
Updating and amending personal details on our CRM including home address, email address, contact telephone number and name changes etc.
Assisting barristers with queries regarding access to and the use of the MyBar portal.
Providing barristers with their Bar Member Numbers.
Providing advice to barristers on how to apply for a Practising Certificate
The successful candidate must have the following qualities:
Experience of working to demanding deadlines.
Excellent attention to detail.
Very good communication skills.
Very good IT skills.
Experience using Microsoft Dynamics and Microsoft Office. Experience using Customer Support Platforms such as Freshdesk and Zendesk is a bonus.
Experience of working in a busy environment.
Experience of working as both part of a team and on their own.
Ability to prioritise conflicting tasks.
