Oracle Database Support Engineer

This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

We have an opportunity for the right candidate to join our team as an Oracle Database Support Engineer. The purpose of the role is to provide Technical IT expertise across all client services, to act as a technical escalation for all Oracle services and solutions. To provide expert input to all new solution designs, incidents, changes and ongoing problems. To technically manage and direct less experienced engineers, taking the technical lead on major service issues, project implementations, while adhering to technical strategy, processes and standards.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

Service Management and Delivery

  • Provide and support fully resilient and fit for purpose environments.
  • Infrastructure platforms and solutions for both internal and external clients.
  • Provide technical input to service, project issues and new solutions.

Technical Project Implementation

  • Implementation and assurance of new solutions.
  • Supporting project managers to deliver the technical tasks and resolve any issues.

Information Management and Security

  • Provision of systems and facilities that ensure the physical and virtual security of all internal and external data.
  • Input from an implementation perspective to Disaster Recovery plans.
  • Adherence to Liberata’s Health and Safety Policy and procedures. Compliance with relevant H&S legislation

Key Tasks

  • Provide support for internal and external client systems with regard to proactive and reactive maintenance within SLAs and adhering to KPI.
  • Provide escalated support, along with engineering best practices and standards.
  • Provide technical input to existing and new clients.
  • Work on the resolution of major service issues relating to area of expertise.
  • Ensure security compliance and governance.
  • Involved in major upgrade initiatives.
  • Keep up to date on all technology advancements.
  • Performance monitoring.
  • Asset, Capacity and availability management.
  • Maintain system information and documentation standards.
  • Adhere to existing standards.
  • Ability to communicate to a very high standard, both verbal and written.
  • Technical support for project delivery inputting to the plans, processes and carrying out Project Implementation tasks.
  • Review and Signoff technical designs.
  • Team player but able to work alone and on own initiative within team and role boundaries.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Must be able to think logically, pay attention to detail, analytical and good at problem solving.
  • The ability to step back and think of consequence and implications of actions - see the 'bigger picture'.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Oracle DBMS Installing/Configuring/Administration/Development
  • Proven ability to support databases on Microsoft Windows, Solaris and Linux servers, many of which are packages supplied by third-party vendors
  • Experience with supporting Local Government Oracle DB
  • Knowledge of other database platforms such as Ingres and MySQL.
  • Knowledge of/ to local government revenues and benefits applications (such as Capita One Digital (AKA Academy) and Northgate iWorld.

Degree or Equivalent Professional Technical Qualifications.

  • 5 years’ experience within an established IT focussed organisation.
  • Well-developed and proven skill in maintaining and troubleshooting technical issues and solutions implementation on the relevant platform.
  • Operational “hands-on” working knowledge in given area and up to date with latest technical advancements

Security vetting and checks:

If you are successful, you will need to comply with the government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard Verification process, this includes a basic criminal record check which will identify any “unspent” convictions. If you are unable to meet these requirements your offer may be revoked.
