Job purpose

Working within the Communications Team, you will be responsible for creating, editing, updating and reviewing content to meet user needs. Possessing excellent writing and editing skills, you’ll make sure the most appropriate content is shown to users in the right place, at the right time, and in the right format.

You will be able to identify improvements to the layout and structure of content to help people understand and find the information they need quickly and easily. You’ll be comfortable using evidence, data and research to make the right content decisions, putting users' needs at the heart of your work.

The main focus of the role initially is to help review and improve existing web and digital content to ensure that it is written clearly and concisely, reducing content where necessary, to make complex information and processes easy to understand and follow. Ensuring that language and style is consistent throughout the website is a key priority.

You will also draft and design new content for projects and campaigns across a range of digital channels and publications such as for the intranet, members platform, or e-newsletters.

Key responsibilities

We will need you to…

  • Write and edit high-quality content that makes complex language and processes easy to understand.
  • Maintain consistency in writing style and messaging across our communications channels, adhering to our language style guidelines and ensuring our ‘voice’ is recognisable, and our ‘tone’ appropriate to the subject and audience at all times.
  • Advocate for best-practice, user-centred content design within the organisation.
  • Work collaboratively with subject matter experts and other stakeholders to make sure content aligns to our content strategy, is accurate and meets both organisational requirements and user needs, using evidence and best practice to explain decisions made and balancing competing priorities.
  • Be comfortable using data and evidence to inform content-related decisions.
  • Identify ways to improve the content, and work with colleagues to make this happen. Be comfortable with constructively challenging established ways of working to achieve agreed objectives.
  • Take part in developing and maintaining content management protocols to ensure content remains up to date and obsolete content is removed or archived.
  • Ensure content is accessible and inclusive to meet the needs of all users, whilst being optimised for search engines.
  • Possess the ability to explain digital content best practice to colleagues at all levels across the organisation.
  • Create, update and review content in end-to-end user journeys based on user feedback, data, and research.
  • Write effective, user-focused content for the website, email newsletters, ad hoc marketing emails, members platform and other channels, using best practice guidelines.
