Dealer Auction is a digital business transforming automotive remarketing. Born from a joint venture between Auto Trader and Cox Automotive, we are the UK’s largest online wholesale marketplace. Our core purpose is to help automotive businesses spanning Manufacturers, Fleet & Leasing companies, Franchise and Independent Retailers buy and sell used vehicles online faster and smarter than any other platform.
We’re continually evolving our digital platform from search and data tools to logistics and transaction management, we now attract over 5,500 buyers and 1,200 sellers, transacting more than 120,000 vehicles each year. As the industry moves from traditional methods to online solutions, Dealer Auction is set to grow exponentially.
The Role:
Join us as a Senior Product Designer, a key figure in Dealer Auction's digital evolution. In this role, you will balance creativity, user experience, and strategic business outcomes to drive our digital product forward. You will play a key part in refining both our marketing presence and our core customer-facing platform.
Your work will encompass:
Enhancing our digital experience by creating engaging, user-centred designs that not only shape our marketing website and onboarding process but also contribute to the evolution of our main product platform.
Translating high-level concepts into detailed user journeys, ensuring our digital assets are both visually appealing and functionally effective.
Collaborating with product and business teams to influence product strategy, define key success metrics, and track how design improvements contribute to business objectives.
Working closely within the design team to develop a progressive design system that bridges our marketing initiatives with our core platform, ensuring consistency and excellence across all digital touchpoints.
Your influence will extend beyond design by integrating user research and data-driven insights, you’ll help shape Dealer Auction’s product vision and drive measurable impact.
You will be responsible for:
Building & Maintaining Design Systems: Collaborate on and maintain our responsive design systems and pattern libraries, ensuring all digital experiences are consistent, accessible, and effective.
Supporting Brand & Marketing Initiatives: Work with the marketing team to support in creating engaging visual assets for both static and motion and establish robust branding guidelines. Your creative input will ensure that every digital asset from landing pages to presentations, reflects our brand consistently.
Collaborating Across Teams: Working with developers, product managers, SEO specialists, and other key stakeholders to translate designs into fully functional, engaging features. Your role ensures that design solutions meet technical feasibility and business objectives.
Driving User Research & Iterative Design: Support user research efforts including design forums and user testing to inform both discovery and iterative design phases. Your insights will underpin every design decision, ensuring our solutions are truly user centred.
Championing a User-Centred Approach: Immerse yourself in understanding our customer base and leverage data to craft compelling narratives that influence stakeholders. Develop user stories, storyboards, technical flows, and sitemap flows that create performant digital journeys aligned with our strategic goals.
What we are looking for:
Our ideal candidate brings a strong blend of UX/UI design proficiency and strategic product skillset. To excel in this role, you should have:
A proactive, self-motivated approach with the ability to manage tasks independently while exercising creative freedom.
Excellent communication skills to articulate design decisions from both user and business perspectives.
A minimum of 5+ year’s experience designing for commercial products, with a portfolio that demonstrates expertise in user testing, qualitative and quantitative research, interaction design, prototyping, and strong visual design.
Experience in co-creation workshops that drive collaborative ideation.
Familiarity with Progressive Web Apps and responsive design principles to ensure user interfaces adapt seamlessly across devices.
Expertise in digital design for marketing assets creation.
Strong prototyping skills and a comprehensive understanding of WCAG and HCI accessibility standards.
Proficiency in Figma and exposure to heat and click mapping tools like Hotjar / data analytics.
A track record of collaborating closely with developers and product teams, ensuring design solutions are implemented effectively.
Knowledge of A/B testing methodologies, along with working basic knowledge of HTML and CSS to help understand how layouts flow and interact.
