The Vacancy
Are you passionate about maintaining high standards and creating welcoming spaces?
Join us at the Field Studies Council, a leading environmental education charity, as a Cleaner at our Epping Forest learning location.
Love where you work!
Established in 1943, our network of Learning Locations provides day and residential outdoor education courses for all ages. We aim to create outstanding opportunities for everyone to learn about nature.
We value every team member — from our educators to our cleaning staff — because everyone that works here plays a role in helping people connect with nature. That’s why we offer great benefits* to reward and support you while you’re with us.
What you’ll be doing
As our Cleaner, you play a vital role in ensuring our learning location is clean, tidy, and ready to inspire visitors. You'll help create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness across our public areas, staff facilities, classrooms, and toilets.
You’ll be adaptable and happy to help where needed, which may occasionally include light general maintenance to support the smooth running of the centre.
No previous cleaning experience? No problem – full training and a supportive induction will be provided if you bring a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
Please refer to the vacancy pack for further details on the full responsibilities of this role.
Where you’ll be based
Field Studies Council Epping Forest is situated in the heart of Epping Forest, an area of around 2,400 hectares of wood-pasture stretching from Manor Park in East London to just north of Epping in Essex.
Two thirds of the Forest have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Our purpose-built, accessible centre has six classrooms and associated facilities, with direct access to our outdoor teaching sites — including woodland, grassland, heath, and river.
Please note: Our centre is in a remote location and not easily accessible by public transport, so if you don’t drive, please consider how you would travel reliably to and from work before applying.
Who we’re looking for
You don’t need a long CV — we’re looking for someone reliable, friendly, and ready to take pride in their work. You'll have:
A great work ethic where attitude counts as much as experience
A natural pride in doing a good job
A flexible and proactive approach — able to work independently and as part of a team
A friendly, professional manner
An interest in supporting our mission to help people connect with nature
A willingness to learn and take on new challenges
Sound like the role for you? Come and be part of the team! We look forward to your application.
