Supporting the Growth of Civil Engineering Projects Across the East Region

We are looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to join our East Region Work Winning team, based at our Barnsley Head Office. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in securing multi-disciplinary civil engineering projects that protect communities, enhance infrastructure and support sustainable regional development.

You will bring strong technical expertise, commercial awareness and first‑principles estimating capability that enables you to lead high‑quality tender production across a diverse portfolio of civil engineering schemes.

About the Role

As Senior Estimator, you will take ownership of tenders from initial enquiry through to formal submission, collaborating closely with planners, bid managers, engineers and supply chain partners. You will ensure that all submissions are commercially robust, clearly articulated, competitive and aligned with our strategic objectives across the East region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Register, analyse and manage tender documentation effectively
  • Lead the preparation and management of tender submissions from receipt to delivery
  • Develop winning tender strategies in collaboration with multi-disciplinary colleagues
  • Present tenders and recommendations at internal tender review meetings
  • Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive, accurate pricing
  • Carry out detailed technical and commercial appraisals (labour, plant, materials, temporary works)
  • Produce accurate first-principles costings and undertake take-offs from drawings
  • Analyse project risks, propose mitigation strategies and ensure compliant tender submissions
  • Prepare estimating reports and tender submission documentation
  • Support and mentor assistant estimators and contribute to team capability development
  • Collaborate with proposals, planning and contract management teams as required

 

What You Bring

Essential

  • Previous experience as a Senior Estimator in civil engineering or infrastructure sectors
  • Strong first‑principles estimating capability
  • Robust understanding of multi-disciplinary projects (rail, highways, aviation, utilities, environmental, etc.)
  • Experience working within a civil engineering contractor environment
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word and estimating software (e.g., Causeway or similar)

Desirable

  • Experience gained in site‑based or operational roles
  • Broader multidisciplinary estimating experience
  • Applicants with transferable skills or non-traditional backgrounds are also encouraged to apply
