Make a real difference by using your driving skills. Our retail team is the face of St Gemma’s hospice in the community. We have 27 vibrant stores around the Leeds area generating the funding which helps us to continue to provide care for our patients, families and the community. Key duties:

 

  • Provide flexible cover across multiple sites, maintaining smooth day to day operations during periods of annual leave, sickness, or other absence.
  • Collect and transport donated goods safely between donor locations, charity shops, and the warehouse, ensuring items are handled with care and delivered efficiently to support smooth retail operations across the charity.
  • Support stock handling processes by carrying out basic assessments of donated items, ensuring only suitable items are accepted for resale, and assisting with the safe removal and transport of unsaleable items to recycling or waste facilities in line with procedures.
  • Represent the charity professionally at all times when engaging with members of the public, donors, and colleagues, delivering excellent customer service while working flexibly and supporting operational needs as required.

 

What are we looking for in a candidate:

 

  • A full UK clean driving licence is essential, along with confidence in driving a charity vehicle safely and responsibly. A willingness to attend and complete driving safety training is also required.
  • Previous experience in a driving, delivery, logistics, or customer facing role is desirable, with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively across multiple collection and delivery points.
  • Able to undertake manual handling duties, including frequent lifting, carrying, and movement of heavy or bulky donated items, in line with health and safety procedures.
  • Practical and safety conscious, with the ability to carry out basic judgement calls on donated goods and follow clear procedures when handling stock and supporting warehouse/shop teams.
  • Friendly, reliable, and professional, with strong communication skills and the ability to represent the charity positively when visiting homes, businesses, and retail sites.
  • Flexible and adaptable, comfortable working on a zero hours basis and responding to varying operational needs across different locations and teams.

St Gemma’s Hospice is an independent Leeds-based charity and one of the leading hospices in the UK, providing expert care and support for local people with life-limiting and terminal illnesses. We offer care to patients, families and carers in the Hospice’s In-Patient Unit, through the St Gemma’s community team, and at our Out-Patients.

We have around 300 employees working across the main Hospice site in Moortown, Retail Hub in Bramley, a large chain of charity shops, and out in the community.
