We are looking for an experienced and collaborative Senior Bid Manager to join our East Region Pre-Contracts team. Based in Barnsley, this is an opportunity to play a meaningful role in securing projects that improve communities, strengthen infrastructure, and support sustainable development across the region.

About the Role

As a Senior Bid Manager, you will lead and coordinate high quality bid submissions from early engagement through to final delivery. You’ll work closely with colleagues across estimating, planning, engineering and leadership teams to produce compelling, client-focused proposals.

This role offers a balance of autonomy and collaboration, with the opportunity to shape bid strategy, influence decision-making, and continuously improve how we win work in the East region.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and managing bids from opportunity through to submission
  • Bringing together multidisciplinary teams to develop strong, competitive proposals
  • Writing and reviewing clear, engaging and high-quality tender responses
  • Creating bid strategies that reflect client needs and project requirements
  • Managing prequalification and tender documentation (EOI/PQQ submissions)
  • Identifying risks, opportunities, and solutions within tender submissions
  • Facilitating collaborative bid meetings and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Working with senior stakeholders to identify and pursue new opportunities
  • Using feedback and insights to improve future submissions
  • Supporting and mentoring others, helping the wider team to develop and succeed

 

What We’re Looking For

You’ll likely bring:

  • Experience in bid management within civil engineering, infrastructure or a related sector
  • Strong communication and writing skills, with the ability to translate technical detail into clear proposals
  • A collaborative approach and confidence working with diverse teams
  • Commercial awareness and the ability to think strategically
  • Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience within rail or major infrastructure projects or frameworks
  • A relevant qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent experience)
  • Experience contributing to work-winning strategy or pipeline development
