This is a Permanent, Full Time vacancy that will close in {x} days at {xx:xx} BST.

re you an entrepreneurial Principal UX Designer who also understands how a business's books work? Who thrives creating something from zero, not just refining something that already exists?

We're looking for a Principal Product Designer to lead a strategically important product area from its earliest stages. This is a hands-on, senior role with significant autonomy, working closely with Product, Engineering and others in the business to shape the product, and turn ambitious ideas into great customer experience outcomes.

This is a genuine 0-to-1 opportunity: you'll work with customers, product managers and engineers to understand important problems, explore new possibilities, and build experiences that make complex financial work feel much simpler, delivering real value.

What will you be doing?

  • Own the end-to-end design of a meaningful product area, from problem discovery through adoption

  • Develop a deep understanding of customers and their underlying needs

  • Identify and frame the problems worth solving, not just the ones you're handed

  • Shape product direction with Product and Engineering as an equal voice

  • Turn ideas into prototypes and testable experiences quickly

  • Work directly with customers throughout discovery and delivery

  • Use qualitative and quantitative evidence to guide your design decisions

  • Launch, measure and improve what you build

  • Make thoughtful design trade-offs in an ambiguous environment, and change direction when the evidence changes

  • Take responsibility for outcomes rather than simply shipping deliverables

What are we looking for?

You may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have experience as a Principal Product Designer, Design Lead or similar, and have worked on a product from an early stage or led a meaningful 0-to-1 initiative

  • Have product experience in one of: Accounting/Bookkeeping or Payments

  • Enjoy starting with an ambiguous problem and creating structure

  • Have strong product judgement and can explain your decisions clearly

  • Get close to customers and use research to shape what you build

  • Are comfortable prototyping with tools such as Figma, code or AI-assisted development tools, and use AI to improve the quality and speed of your work

  • Can work effectively with engineers and product managers, and connect design decisions to customer and commercial outcomes

  • Are comfortable making decisions with incomplete information

  • Are curious about how complex systems work and how they could be made simpler

How you work

You're likely to enjoy this role if you start with the customer, prefer learning through testing over debating hypotheticals, have strong opinions but low ego, and see AI and technology as opportunities to explore rather than constraints to accept.

It would be great if you also have

A good understanding of the accounting process and general ledger from the inside, not just in theory. That means either you're a qualified accountant (ACCA, ICAEW, ATT, AAT or equivalent) with hands-on practice or industry experience, or you're an entrepreneur who has run your own company's books yourself, reconciling the bank, filing VAT returns, keeping the general ledger straight and knows what good bookkeeping looks like.
