The Litigation Officer role is responsible for supporting the firm’s solicitors in managing clients’ cases in accordance with the strategy agreed between the client and the firm’s solicitors. This includes negotiating and promoting settlement of debt recovery matters in line with strict regulatory guidelines, Company best practice, and by following County Court procedures.    By following these guidelines and procedures, the ultimate aim of the Litigation Officer role is to support the firm’s solicitors to obtain the best outcome for both the customer and client based on our clients’ strategy and instructions.  This may result in the issue of proceedings or agreement  of a payment plan in accordance with set procedures.

What you’ll do

The Litigation Officer will be involved in the following activities:

  • Reviewing accounts referred for possible legal action and where appropriate progressing the most effective means of enforcement in accordance with the strategy agreed with the client and their instructions.
  • Dealing with enquiries by telephone, email, work queues and/or post delivering a first-time resolution, wherever possible.
  • Updating case management systems and progressing accounts in accordance with the strategy agreed with the client, and Company and County Court procedures.
  • Negotiating formal and informal payment arrangements in accordance with the strategy agreed with the client, and court decisions and client requirements.
  • Processing card payments, setting up direct debits and/or assisting customers with payment options that suit their needs whilst complying with court decisions and requirements.

What you’ll bring

  • Experience: previous customer service experience and/or experience of working in a legal/ collections environment, preferably in the financial services sector is desirable.
  • A good understanding of the principles of Treating Customers Fairly and an awareness of relevant case law, Court process, Statutes and Regulations to recover CCA regulated debt is also desirable.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal skills in English.  Demonstrates excellent attention to detail.
  • Education: Good numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Organisation: Demonstrates good organisational and time management skills.  Is able to work flexibly to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
