Reporting to: Vice Principal - Curriculum

This is not a role for someone who wants to maintain the status quo.

This is a role for a leader who sees potential where others see barriers.

A leader who understands that excellent English and maths provision transforms lives.

A leader who believes that every student deserves the opportunity to achieve, progress and succeed, regardless of their starting point.

We are seeking an exceptional Director of English and Maths to lead one of the College's most strategically important curriculum areas. This is an opportunity to shape the future of English and maths education for thousands of young people, apprentices and adult students and to make a lasting difference to outcomes, aspirations and life chances.

The Opportunity

English and maths sit at the heart of everything we do. They unlock progression to university, apprenticeships and employment. They build confidence, resilience and future success.

We are looking for a leader who can bring energy, clarity and relentless ambition to our English, maths and Functional Skills provision.

You will lead significant curriculum provision, drive improvement at pace and work alongside talented leaders and teachers to create a culture where outstanding outcomes become the norm.

This role offers the opportunity to:

  • Lead curriculum innovation and quality improvement
  • Shape the strategic direction of English and maths across the College
  • Develop and inspire high-performing teams

You may currently be a:

  • Director
  • Assistant Principal
  • Head of Faculty

  • Head of Maths

but wherever you are, you will have a proven track record of delivering improvement and raising standards.

You will be someone who:

  • Uses data intelligently to drive decision-making
  • Holds high expectations of yourself and others
  • Is resilient, determined and outcomes-focused
  • Builds strong relationships whilst maintaining accountability
  • Understands that student achievement is the ultimate measure of success
  • Inspires teams to believe more is possible

We want someone who is as passionate about improving attendance as they are about improving pass rates.

Someone who understands that outstanding results come from outstanding leadership.

Most importantly, we want someone who is driven by the belief that education changes lives.

What You'll Be Responsible For

You will lead the strategic and operational development of English, maths and Functional Skills provision across the College, including:

  • GCSE English and Maths
  • Functional Skills provision

  • Apprenticeship English and maths delivery

You will drive improvement in:

  • Attendance
  • Achievement
  • Pass rates
  • High grades
  • Grade Progression

  • Positive destinations

You will create a culture where robust performance management, evidence-informed teaching and continuous improvement combine to deliver exceptional student outcomes.
