Can you inspire, energise and motivate young people aged 9–18? Do you enjoy making a real difference in the lives of children and young people? Are you looking to join a friendly, supportive team where your contributions are valued, and you’re treated with respect? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

Our YMCA Youth Clubs support young people aged 9–18, providing safe spaces to socialize, learn, and grow. In this role, you’ll help deliver engaging sessions and assist with projects, including supporting the opening of new clubs in Hatfield. We’re looking for someone available 2 evenings each week, with additional time built in for administration - a total of 7 hours per week, paid on a monthly, salaried basis.

Key elements of the role include:

• Supporting the Senior Youth Development Worker in planning, delivering, and evaluating activities for young people aged 11–25, in line with the Youth Work Strategy.

• Delivering and sustaining a range of youth work activities, including outreach, centre-based sessions, school programmes, mentoring, and digital engagement.

• Building positive relationships with young people, providing guidance, encouragement, and opportunities for personal and social development.

• Maintaining accurate records of participation, engagement, and outcomes to support monitoring, evaluation, and reporting.

You’ll report to the Senior Youth Development Worker and help deliver a range of outreach and centre-based youth activities, aligned with the YMCA Youth Work Strategy and Principles. Training will be provided, so if you’re passionate and willing to learn, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. We look forward to receiving your application!

One YMCA and its subsidiaries, the Early Childhood Partnership (ECP) and Signpost are on an exciting journey to double our impact by 2025. We are over half way through an exciting new strategy launched in the first hour of the new decade, via email where all staff and volunteers were invited to put themselves forward to apply and attend an intensive, three-day Kickstarter Event.

By the end of these three days, there was a brilliantly multi-faceted set of themes and ideas, which formed the starting point for the rest of the Mission 25 process to build on. The aim of Mission 25 is to give every staff member and volunteer the opportunity to play their part in shaping the strategy to do “more and better, together” so that we double our impact by 2025. We deliver a vast array of services across Herts, Beds and Bucks that reach over 135,000 individuals annually.

These include:

  • Provision of over 700 units of accommodation for homeless people
  • Move on accommodation for individuals moving onto independent living
  • Housing and practical/emotional support for young asylum seekers
  • Community HUBs hosting a range of activities and meeting space hire
  • Childcare provision in Hertfordshire
  • Family support through a network of children’s and family centres covering Hertfordshire and Bedford
  • Therapeutic and non-therapeutic support for male and female victims of domestic abuse and their children
  • Independent sexual violence services across Bedfordshire, Luton and Hertfordshire
  • Domestic abuse perpetrator reform programmes across Bedfordshire
  • Youth services offering emotional wellbeing support and youth club opportunities for 11-19 year olds alongside our National Airplay programme funded by the RAF Benevolent Fund
  • A community gym where everyone can enjoy the benefits of physical exercise Our values remain at the forefront of how we operate as a charity, and it is important to us that all staff and volunteers can fully buy in to our ethos.

YMCA is a global movement that empowers communities and young people to build a just, sustainable, equitable and inclusive world. Founded over 160 years ago, the movement gave birth to basketball, volleyball, Father’s Day, and inner city hostels, and has grown to be the world’s largest youth organisation with over 50 million members in 121 countries.

"One YMCA" represents the movement in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire, and is now one of the largest YMCA’s in Europe. Our focus is supporting vulnerable individuals and families to develop the skills and confidence they need to progress towards independence, so they are able to live their life to the full. Our approach is holistic and so we offer a wide range of services that include Housing, Community, Family Support, Youth and Children’s Activity Programmes, Early Years Education, and Specialist Therapeutic Support.

In the last five years, we have trebled our income to £40m, and more than doubled our colleague numbers to over 750. We are ambitious to continue to serve even more people and plan to grow our impact across our four counties, whilst also playing a growing role globally in what 14,000 other YMCAs are seeking to achieve globally through our shared 2030 Vision.
