Oracle DBA

Location: Gloucester

Pro Insurance currently has an opportunity for an Oracle DBA to join the core IT team in Gloucester.  Pro operates a mix of application solutions covering both Oracle and SQL Server so some knowledge of SQL Server would also be desirable but the focus is on Oracle. The job holder will take on a range of database administration duties including BAU housekeeping, 3rd line support for database incidents, some database remediation activities as we upgrade our estate, and project work arising from our new Pelican application. They will need to demonstrate good DBA skills and experience as described below, operating within a multi-platform environment and liaising with IT colleagues in London and the US. The is  permanent role based in our Gloucester office.

 

Position Description

 

The successful candidate will be an experienced Oracle Database Administrator used to working in a production environment, able to diagnose and resolve incidents assigned to the DBA team from the Service Desk, and a self-starter.      

 

Skills and Responsibilities

 

  • Demonstrable experience in a similar position and solid track record of providing DBA services in a multi-platform production environment.
  • Good experience of working with the following products and technologies is essential:
  • Oracle RDBMS versions 10, 11 and 12. Enterprise and Standard Editions.
  • Oracle APEX versions 3, 4 and 5
  • Oracle RMAN
  • LINUX, including exposure to shell scripting
  • VMWare and virtualisation technologies
  • Experience of the following skills and technologies would be desirable:
  • Database upgrades and patching
  • Database migrations
  • Oracle Application Server (10g)
  • Oracle Forms
  • SQL Scripting and ANSI SQL
  • Microsoft SQL Server (multiple versions)
  • MS SQL Management Studio
  • Windows Server

 

Other Competencies

 

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good MS Office skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project, Visio, Outlook).
