This is a unique opportunity to join the IUCN UK Peatland Programme team, supporting the Peatland Code. The Peatland Code is the quality assurance standard for peatland restoration projects in the UK, and generates independently verified carbon units. Backed by Government and governed by an Executive Board and Technical Advisory Board with key experts from the industry, policy and research community, the Peatland Code offers the UK’s only official standard to support peatland restoration under the voluntary carbon market, operating under the UK Government’s Environmental Reporting Guidelines. Who we are
The successful candidate will be employed by the IUCN UK Peatland Programme’s host organisation, The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. The new team member will be pivotal in the delivery of the Peatland Programme’s objectives to champion peatland values. They will have the level of knowledge and experience to drive forward and promote peatland restoration in the UK and be able to advocate the multiple benefits of peatlands through partnerships, strong science, sound policy and effective practice, and communication.

Together we have 870,000 members, 38,000 volunteers and 3,400 staff across the UK. We are at an exciting moment in our 110- year history, with the development of an ambitious new strategy, setting out a vision of nature in recovery, with abundant, diverse wildlife and natural processes creating wilder landscapes where people and nature thrive.
About you
You need to be strategic by nature; someone who easily sees the big picture, strives for improvement and quick thinker. You will work in the rapid developing arena of voluntary carbon markets and will keep on top of the latest national and international market developments to make sure the Peatland Code remains the leading standard for peatland restoration projects in the UK.
You will be responsible for the technical development of the current Peatland Code. This will include managing the pilot phase of the UK Accreditation Services (UKAS) to accredit the Peatland Code appointed validation/verification bodies, getting the Peatland Code approved by other standard bodies and providing support to include other ecosystem services under the Peatland Code. For this, good organisational and communication skills are critical and the ability to digest technical information and communicate it in an accessible way is key. Further, as part of a team, you will support the operation and promotion of the Peatland Code. This means you will have excellent project management and presentation skills, as well being highly organised in your work.
