As an independent, specialist art college we welcome people who want to be part of our free-thinking and dynamic community.
We recruit the best people to a variety of roles within a stimulating, friendly and diverse environment that nurtures talent and rewards success. Our staff come from across the country, not only for our outstanding reputation but because of the culture of innovation and forward thinking that is part of the college community.
The college is a UK Advisory Council Member of the Creative Industries Federation, a Member of the Crafts Council Advisory Group, a founding associate of Tate Exchange, and a Steering Group Member of the Cultural Learning Alliance. We also have a growing international profile including partnerships in China. In June 2017, Plymouth College of Art was awarded the Social Enterprise Gold Mark by Social Enterprise Mark (CIC). In 2018, the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI) ranked Plymouth College of Art as fifth out of HEIs in the UK for class equality and widening participation. In 2019, we were awarded International Baccalaureate (IB) World School status, becoming the first non-private education provider in the South West to offer the International Baccalaureate Career-related Programme (IBCP).
Currently the college has a ratio of HE to FE students of 70:30, BA (Hons) and MA through to FE for IBCP and Extended Diploma courses. Our two city centre campuses are also home to the public Gallery and Fab Lab Plymouth, and we offer a range of short courses, masterclasses, and a programme of Young Arts activities including the National Art & Design Young Arts Club.
In 2012 we successfully bid to Government to open a mainstream 4–16 school - on a radical new model that places creativity and arts practice at the very heart of the curriculum and of the wider pupil learning experience. The venture was described as ‘an historic moment for education in this country’ by Sir Nicholas Serota, Director of Tate when he officially opened the school in 2015 and has since gone on to receive multiple awards in architecture. www.plymouthschoolofcreativearts.co.uk
Named as Britain's Ocean City, Plymouth is a vibrant hive of activity with a history of discovery and a present of breaking boundaries in rediscovering and reinventing itself.
Having been awarded HEI status and Taught Degree Awarding Powers, built our award-winning Craft, Design and Fabrication centre, and our investment in a Pre-Degree Campus at Palace Court, the college is on an exciting journey to maintain and grow its position as a highly distinctive Art and Design college providing a strong continuum of learning – we welcome innovative people to join us.
